i hate kids

Let me tell you something, everyone.

For those of you who have little kids in your life, I suggest that you keep an eye on them. In fact, you'll soon wish that they were little brats again.

Why do I say this? it's simple. Once they reach middle school, you'll start losing a little bit of control over them because they will soon (in a few days after they get to middle school) be adopting some so-called traits from other students (like cursing, bad attitude, skipping classes. hehe).

You think that's worse? Wait till they get to high school. Soon, you'll be watching your kid like a hawk.

Let me warn you. Once those kids turn 18, all hell will break loose.

Symptoms:

Age 13: This is age where kids now become teenager. As a result, those teenagers will start feeling the urge to curse and start having a negative attitude towards teachers. However, I had an ecounter with a bad teacher who talk like a dictator when I was in elementary.

Age 16: WATCH OUT!!!!! This is a common age when teens start to have the urge to get a driver liscence. First, they will want to take DriversEd in school and then they will get their restricted. Then you would see them rush to the nearest DMV (driver motor vehicle) to get their operators liscence.

Age 17: This is where the teen will start to get a job (possibly earlier) at publix. LOL They will do this not only for money, but also to pay for the expensive insurrance whenever that teen starts to wanna drive your Ferrari. and using it to get around and dragg race. LOL

Age 18: OMG!!!!!!!!! Soon, you'll see your own flesh-and-blood turn into a thug. And if it's a girl, she'll be really expensive (buying make-up to look like Britney Spears, or starts to hang out with 2 or more guys that you never met.  :o ).

Note: Watch out when your kid turns 18. Chances are, he might execute his right to own a fire arm and may start drinking. but don't worry, some states in the U.S. require a teen to be 19 in order to be declared an adult. Here in Florida, the requirement is 18 and I'm turning 19 in 5 days.

PS: This post should not concern those who don't have small, elementary, children.

I have a 15 year old that is with his mom, and I get all the details of his actions...better her than me. Dont get me wrong, I love my oldest to death but if I had kept custody of him he would not be getting in half the trouble he has been in. ( dont ask about the custody, its long and really f*%#&% up and ..well you get the idea).
As far as being "tied down" once you get married you are tied down...so to speak. The kids wont really tie you down any more if you dont let them. They just change the places you go.  You dont even need to spend money or a lot of it to make it fun. My trip to Florida cost under $400. My wife and I see no sense in taking a 2 and 4 year old to a theme park. A zoo or a Hand-on Museum is less expensive and a hell of a lot more educational.

It is true that some kids are just out right rude no matter what the parents did. I have a great distaste for teenages because they "know everything" when in fact they need a good "attitude adjustment". So, just like most of you that hate kids, I dont like teenages because they, meaning a few, pissed me off, or annoyed me to the point where I wanted to invert his nose.

HOLD IT!!!!! I know that a large bunch of you are teenagers and I just basicly slammed you. Other than a few bad apples that are no longer here or have straighten  up, I have a great deal of respect for you guys. In my opinion, you kids have conducted yourselfs in a very mature and responsible way. It takes a lot for a teen to get my nod of approval

I can't stand other peoples children, they annoy me to death and beyond.  What Paz has said applies equally to me.  My own daughter however is a differant kettle of fish.  You develop a bond with them that takes years to happen.  Abi is four years old, if I hadn't spent hours nursing her through colic, changing nappies etc I wouldn't give two hoots for her either.  You make parenting up as you go along, I think I'm a crap father.  Abi and Sarah think that I'm great.  I don't give a toss what anybody else thinks  ;).

Well, my 2 cents:
Being a parent is loads of work -- yes, caring for my 1-year-old is not easy. Sleep deprivation, stress, etc. But the rewards far outweigh the travails. I'm 43 and feel fortunate that I'm a dad. Seeing the baby grow and develop and communicate and reach milestone after milestone is an experience that I cherish. Yes, some people simply have no interest in becoming parents, and that's fine, but I'm sure that many people in their teens and 20s who claim to "hate kids" eventually see parenthood as a natural progression and a role they embrace.

Unfortunately, parenting is one of the most inportant things you'll do in your life, that you don't need a license or any instruction to undertake.  ;D

I applaud those who are aware of their dislike for children and consider themselves 'insuitable' for the task, and claim they won't have any. Of course, the wife (when she arrives) may have something to say about that.  ;D ;)

I have seen wonderful couples that were meant to be parents and would trade legs and arms just for a 1 in 100 chance, but they cannot have kids.
I've seen people who pop kids out like they do 't*rds' and have absolutely no time, inclination or interest in how they are raised, or even (it would seem) whether they live or die.  >:(

Another of life's inequities, I dare say...............

I think parents are, to a great degree, responsible for the actions of thier children, even at the ages of 16  and 17. I know it can be hell to control a teenager who has, for one reason or another, gone off the rails. It's the time, IMO, for what they call tough love.

I delivered my own Stepson to the local Police Sergeant, to confess some malicious damage that he had caused, while drunk. I had him offer to make restitution also.
The Sergeant ended up not charging him, and the victim, who would have seen him incarcerated had I not done what I did, ended up deciding to have my Stepson help him to repair the damage (about $1000-00 worth).

1. The police would have charged and prosecuted him had they not seen the demonstration of moral and parental commitment from me. (and the remorse that did eventually result from all this, from my stepson).

2. I would have had to foot a $1000 repair bill, not to mention court cost and lawyers etc, if not for my 'tough love' policy. (I would have had a BIG problem footing the bill for this - I would have wanted to let him get out of it himself, but my wife (his natural mother - bless her soul, deceased) would have won out and had me help him, hence disadvantaging 5 other children because of the financial burden it would have caused).

3. My stepson would not have learnt an important lesson. That is, he not only had to contend with his victims and the Police, but also me, if he wanted to get away with anything. (he found out that I was not as stupid as he thought I was).

Sure, he hated my guts for a while, but now he understands that I probably saved him from alot of grief on that partricular occasion. He did eventually, not so long ago, in fact, thank me. Parenting is a thankless task, and the rewards can sometimes be far off.  ;)

I have a poster in my home office, which has been there since my eldest Son was about 15. It reads:

"TEENAGERS, GET OUT OF HERE NOW, WHILE YOU STILL KNOW EVERYTHING!"  ;D

I really just glanced through this but I will give my 2 cents, then I need to get back to work.

My whole life I always looked at children as a 'burden" to raise. I was used to my free for all life. I did whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Other people

I was napping on the couch today when Olivia climbed up on me and started bouncing up and down, wanting to play.  Of course, since she was doing it, her brother couldn't be out done so he had to climb up also.  So I was laying there, half asleep with two 21 month olds poking fingers in my ear, pulling eyelids open, and I even got a kiss.  That more than makes up for Sunday when we went to Denny's and they had missed their naps and were crying their heads off.

 Great post Dave, you give an interesting perspective having spent time on both sides of the fence.
 I suspect that your pre-parenthood disdain for the actions of the children you came in contact with have played a big part in how you are raising your own children, one of those "If that was my kid" things.

 I expect that if we ever decide to have kids we would follow the same ideals, because I hear my little woman comment all the time when she visits her friends who have kids about how they are rude, obnoxious and have no manners, discipline or respect for thier parents or anyone else.
 She was raised in a somewhat strict household, so I think She would make a great Mother, I'm not sure how I would do, I sure wouldn't want my kids to behave like all the children I can't stand to be around.

 I suppose I could get advice from my Brother when the time comes, He seems to have some of the most well behaved and smart kids I have ever seen.
I don't know how he does it because I rarely see him, but he sure seems to have the Dad thing down pat, never once have I been annoyed being around his kids, they always seem content and act like little adults, and they are only 3 and 5, I think.

While in line at the bank one afternoon, my toddler decided to release
some pent-up energy and ran amok. I was finally able to grab hold of her
after receiving looks of disgust and annoyance from other patrons. I
told her that if she did not start behaving "right now"she would be
punished. To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice
just as threatening,"If you don't let me go right now, I will tell
Grandma that I saw you kissing Daddy's pee-pee last night!" The silence
was deafening after this enlightening exchange. Even the tellers stopped
what they were doing. I mustered up the last of my dignity and walked
out of the bank with my daughter in tow. The last thing I heard when the
door closed behind me were screams of laughter.
