Bad day for Hagar and Fozzer

I love my monthly free allowance of sending text messages, courtesy of O2, via my PC...
I sit comfortably at my computer, and type in my text message appearing on the monitor screen, using my full-size, proper qwerty keyboard. It checks my spelling as I type....
...and allows me to edit it, and check it, before sending it to the recipient's mobile phone's number....
...whilst my real mobile phone sulks, unused, in the bottom drawer in my kitchen, amongst the washing powder and cleaning "stuff".

...joy!.... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

I think taking the apostrophe away is OK in this case. The store no longer belongs to Mr Waterstone and so it is no longer Waterstone's. Instead each store is now one of many Waterstones.

If there's no more possession why keep a possessive apostrophe?
In such case, why even retain the 's'?

Seems to me, it would make more sense to reprogram the internet to accept punctuation in addresses. And it would be less expensive than repainting all the business and street signs the world over. But I'm just a retired cop, what do I know.

Google already does that so it's not a valid excuse for removing the apostrophe. If Waterstone's wants to change its image it would surely be better to remove the last S as H already suggested.

To be honest I don't know what all the fuss is about. If you walk down what's left of a British high street you will notice lots of well-known national companies dispensed with the apostrophe years ago. Some, like Boots the chemists, never had one in the first place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_UK

Save the apostrophe, murder an advertising executive, but I think that does not help the situation

Whilst we are on a similar subject, can someone explain to me the difference between the following statements...

"I should have got the earlier Bus"
"I should have gotten the earlier Bus"

"I should have got a loaf of Bread"
"I should have gotten a loaf of Bread"

...etc...

Got and Gotten?

..a while ago @H did explain the subtle difference between the two words. "Gotten" in American did have a different meaning to "Got" in English. something to do with; "ownership" in the; "past"?

Got something v Gotten something....You have gotten "it" by some means!

...but I have forgotten... :-/...!

According to the tip from my link it should be perfectly straightforward.

Apart from the importance of an upper case letter starting a sentence, or after a full stop, the other important upper case letter is when referring to yourself......YOU!...>>>

i can.. >:(.....I can... :)...!

I reckon if you can type in the Chat Window, without any errors, whilst successfully landing a Boeing 747 on a short grass strip, in on-line Multiplayer, then your typing deserves a 10/10 and a Gold Star... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]....
