Indeed, pics will come shortly. I have to work the other job at the airport tomorrow, but hopefully in the afternoon I will have time to sort out what is worth posting and what is not.
A little about my helicopter ride. I enjoy this story, not as much as I enjoyed the ride, but you know.
It turns out that they always take two people on the helicopter rides. Most people show up in pairs already, so it's not really a problem. I however, was alone so they needed another person who was alone to fly with me. I ended up with a 7 or 8 year old kid sitting next to me in line. It's not a problem, I like kids, in fact I get along with them better than I do most adults. I guess it's because I'm just an overgrown kid myself. So while waiting in line I got to talking with the young man, who's name is Grant as it turns out. Neither of us had ever been on a helicopter before. He said "I hope that this is worth missing part of the airshow for", I told him "I think that it will be". Well, ten second into the flight he yelled over the engine noise "This was definitely worth it!". I've never seen a kid have so much fun in an aircraft before. The best part is, I was having just as much fun as he was. It was great, we circled over exhibit area and the camp ground and I actually managed to spot my tent and photograph it from the air. After we landed, both of us hopped out and ran over to the side to make room for the next pair of riders. Grant and I looked at each other and said "That was awesome!" at the same time. This experience was somewhat special to me because when I was Grant's age I got my first ride in a light plane and it sparked a life long interest in aviation. I like knowing that I was part of his first ride too. I just hope that it made as big an impression on him as my first ride did on me.
Yeah, that's right, Tacit has a soft side.
That first ride of mine was through the Young Eagles program. When I finally get my PPL I want to do at least one Young Eagles flight just to pass it along. So far this is as close as I've come to doing that. Also, I can cross an item off of my "do before death" list, *fly in a helicopter. Next I need to FLY a helicopter just once.
So that is my little article on my fun experience in the helicopter.
P.S. hovering is AWESOME.
