Internet Connection Speed

I've got whatever the school has, probably broadband, getting 54 Mbps.

54Mbps would be the connection speed between your network and your computer. Your true internet speed will be far lower than this.

According to Speedtest.net, I get 10Mbps download which is fairly reasonable. Thank you, Sky.

Instead of highspeed and dialup, I think ranges of values or all internet services may have made a better poll. There's also satellite internet. I know Australia gets a pretty bad connection even if you're on 'high speed'.

Dooo... pshrrrrrrrhhh dinnnnngggg doooonggg prshhhhhh sling fing ding prshhhhhh - My speakers, 1999

I really miss that comforting sound... ::).....

Like the sound of a 1/4 Inch Audio Tape transferring Data into my 1982 trusty Sinclair 48K Spectrum (Timex) Computer....

...happy days.... :)...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

The Computer Data Transfer Rate was very similar to the speed of my Dial-up Internet connection, as I remember... It was a bit slow...;)...!

From my experience, calling a fax machine produces the very same sound ;) :D

Paul... FS2004... And a fax machine?

:P

Here you go :) You can find it on youtube :)

That says I'm now getting 1.15 Mbps.  :-[

Surely the best way of deciding on a pixel width would be to post examples in different resolutions. The native resolution of my 19" wide-screen monitor is 1440 x 900. This image is 1440 x 960. Forget the quality. How many people can see all of it without scrolling?

I have to scroll a lot to see that, running at 1440X900.

Pixel width at 1024 is a fine size, I thought the push was for higher 'kb' limits.

The main reason for the 150kb limit has been for people with slower connections, not having to wait on lots of images to load.
If Ozzy comes in here, we'll have our first dial up vote.  ;)

I have no problems at all with downloading Screen Shot speeds.... :)...!

The example of Doug's Screen Shot is what I have problems with.... :'(....

Any Screen Shot over 900 Pixels Wide means I have to scroll the window horizontally on my 17 inch, default Max 1280 X 1024 Monitor screen.....which is really annoying!
(I reduce my own Screen Shots, Photos, etc, to a max of 900 Pixels wide, to suit other Folks who may be having the same problem as me!... :-*...)...!

Paul...Speed OK!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif].....Pics too large!... >:(..... ;)...!

10mbps connection. I downgraded from 20mbps 6 months ago and can't tell the difference on EVERY site I visit.

Doug, I have to scroll to see your picture.

Oh come on, I can't be the only one! Dial-up is the ONLY service available in my area. According to the phone company it would cost me personally $1500 for them to put up the type of lines required for high speed access. Of course I have no experience with anything but dial-up so if that doesn't make sense, then I don't know. ::)

How about those of us who pay for highspeed but only get 90kb/s

I would have been happy with that speed about 3 years ago...paying for "Highspeed" but only got 32kbs >:(

One thing with the image scrolling. It also depends on how magnified you have the webpage itself. Most of the time, you can adjust this by holding the CTRL key while scrolling the mouse wheel. At first I had to scroll sideways to see the image as well, but then I just reduced my magnification by one notch and it's fine, and everything is still readable.

I'm running DSL. Bandwidth.com says 1561 kbps down, 246 kbps up. My monitor is 1280 x 1024 and I had to zoom out to 85% to see all of the image without scrolling.
