The main reason we resisted it was the cost. Prices doubled overnight as we knew they would.

Just as it did here in German when they changed from DM to

it was always written like this;

Which is the obvious origin of our 1d (one penny) nails over here; with their current price it would be cheaper to beat an actual penny into a nail.

When I first moved to Canada, I went to hardware store to buy a box of 16 penny nails. No one had a clue what I was talking about, and I didn't have a clue as to what they actually called them.
