According to CNN, authorities have confirmed that one of the major fires was caused by an arsonist.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/25/fire.arson/index.html

I can only imagine how pissed off the residents are when they heard that they lost their property to an arson. On top of that, 2 people have died from it. My condolences go to the family of the victims.

According to CNN, authorities have confirmed that one of the major fires was caused by an arsonist.

I understand the human desire to place blame for this kind of thing, and certainly an arsonist should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (in this case perhaps second degree murder).  Still, lots of these fires (and there are many of them burning) were natural occurances.  I think people may get too spun up on the "arson" thing in the desire to place blame and forget that (with the exception of how one or two of these fires started) this is a natural catastrophe.

Well, the people of California, CNN and the authorities clearly understand that most of the first were natural due to the environmental conditions at the time. Oily sagebrushes getting hot, the ground becoming more hotter than the air, dry grass, very little wind, are all perfect ingredients for a natural wildfire. It's that the people of affected by the wildfires want a solid conclusion as to who started one of the fires that killed two people and prevented disaster relief personnel from getting to where they need to be at.

Yeah, who's gonna pay the CARB fines for that?  Those wildfires are not burning with the proper emissions controls.  :)

y'know only a couple of days after news broke out of the fires, we started seeing smoke (Albuquerque is 788 miles away, too early to see smoke, and blowing in the wrong direction). people started panicking (for what reason, idk...) and the news was scrambling to tell us the Jemez Mountains had a controlled burn going on.

people need to get a grip sometimes...
