Heard a few suggestions of the southwest and I would personally agree with spending a day or two here in AZ.  If your into history, this IS the old west, and many parts of that still exist.  Also my town is home to one of the best boneyards, Davis-Monthan, and its very inexpensive to get a tour of it, as well as the air museum. Also a nice thing is gas prices here are the lowest in the country (  ;) :P )  Our mountains are 8000+ ft and are just the little foothills to the Rockies (another good place to go) and the amount of available camping here is great.  City life isn't the most exciting but what we have in nature and just originality is pretty nice.

Grand canyon and northern AZ are very nice this time of year, and having been to Colorado in summer I would also highly suggest there.  I'm sure you'll be able to find something that best suits what you want to do no matter where you go  :D

Tombstone is down by tucson also, would recommend going there as well

Chicago's worth a shot.  It's a very nice city, with much of the culture of New York City but not as expensive and much greener, plus Lake Michigan is nice.

Personally, you might want to do some sort of "hop" across the USA, for example starting in NYC, then flying to one or two places in the middle of America (such as Chicago, Denver, St. Louis, Phoenix, etc.) and then ending up in the West Coast (such as San Fran, Seattle, etc.).

You can easily get flights to the UK from most US Major cities (I Know for a fact NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco have many of them).

Also, two good websites,  Kayak.com is great for finding affordable flights and hotels, and wikitravel.com is great for finding out about destinations (it has tons about the USA, as well as other cities and countries around the world).

In cities like Manhattan...
For the info, Manhattan is an island, which is part of the borough of Manhattan, which is part of greater NYC.
Also, I've only driven through part of Boston once and rode along with others a few times; I usually walked or used the subway when I went to school there.

THANK You very much for the reccomendations. BOSTON is a certain, very diverse and interesting culture to be had, and i would really like to visit. Input on Boston would be nice.

Even though i REALLY want to visit NYC, it's simply too dear for a 3 night stay. Prices are like

Bummer; I forgot you're too young to rent a car... have fun on Greyhound. ::)

Seriously: those bus lines are reliable and reasonably-priced, but I find traveling long distances by bus to be like a spell in Purgatory. Hell, if there's a baby on board, or a couple who are fighting.  :)

You might reconsider NYC if you investigate cheaper lodgings like youth hostels or some sort of short-term share or sublet (try Craigs List).

Good luck an have fun, whatever you decide! :)

I don't think you need to take the Greyhound, it might be cheap, but it can take well over a day (24 hours) to get from one major city to another, with the exception of close cities in the Northeastern "Megalopolis"

So i would like some advice on travelling alone.. is it worth it? Whats it like?

Do it.

You can do whatever you want, you don't have anyone to care about...practically you're as free as you can be on a holiday.

I spent two weeks on R
