I would not call it useless, Leonardo da Vinci actually did create the first man-powered aircraft and although it is not the perfection we have today in hang gliders, the design was tested and it does work, with limited control. It does not have the needed design in it to allow the pilot proper control and therefore it is dangerous and unusable by today

So now you sit back and push buttons instead of being shot at yourself.
Not necessarily -- if they've shot all of your robots, enemy robots may now shoot you... :o

I find it unlikely the type of enemy encountered today will be sending out their own robots anytime soon.  I agree that you have to start somewhere, but it hardly seems like this thing has the agility or the smarts to be of much use in a combat situation.  One RPG could take it out in about 10 seconds.

BTW, I was exaggerating... The B-2 is still the biggest waste of money ever developed.   ;)

Scary thing is if you completely take the human element out of war then it becomes very easy to wage even more wars. I dont like to see lives lost in a conflict but if a nation has the capability to wage war without the loss of life just think of how easy the justification will be.

I think these things are horrible and as they become mainstream I think even more lives could be lost. Killing becoming a video game.  :o

Well, that's Issac Asimov's law #1 broken to millions of pieces...

"Law #1 of Robotics: A robot may never harm a human being"

I/A did not have a billion dollar contract with the DoD

You must have a purpose a drive and a goal (an excuse) to spend money to develop more technology, to force innovation and get another billion dollar contract. War drives economies. WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, many of the mid-east excursions, all designed to stimulate the economy, change global pricing structures, and of course who ever is in control during those times also makes a nice profit too, regardless of their political or social positions.

Its not the technology that is the problem.

A dangerous thought when you consider just how barbaric and lazy human beings are. So now you sit back and push buttons instead of being shot at yourself.

If it ever gets to the point where we wage wars between drones, let's just forget the whole thing and play some BF2 or Ghost Recon tournaments between countries instead... ;D

Need a HUGE LAN for that but it sounds like a good solution...

I might point out that once upon a time, aircraft were considered utterly useless for combat use (and initially, they mostly were).  Indeed, aircraft squeeked their way into military service as a means of scouting.  Anyway, there were many who were dubious to there efficacy when aircraft were first offered up for military use.  That skepticism didn't last long.  And now . . . well . . . I think we all know how important aircraft are to kicking a** in battle.

It just takes time for new technology to come into its own.
