Yee-Hawww! Ever'body relax, now; this her's jus' a good ol' thread-hijackin'...

Talking of daft exotic sports. Have you seen the Redneck Olympics? http://www.hotget.com/videocode/Jeff_Fo ... -3339.html

Bless you Hagar for that touching tribute to the unsung sportsmen of America's sunbelt... that was damn funny. And 100% true... it explains why any redneck of good character makes excellent company in any situation: they are individuals "of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy"... ;D

Anybody who just looked at the pic should really go back and check the video: it's hilarious, and any "dang furriners" who don't understand rednecks will learn all they need to know... :D

I was in the area during the runup to the Atlanta Olympics (1996). The flame actually came through Washington DC while I was there. Jeff Foxworthy's 'Games Rednecks Play' was very popular on the radio at the time. I managed to get the CD in Virgin Records in Manhattan. :D

PS. That was during my last visit to the US. I've been searching for this vid for a long time. http://www.hotget.com/videocode/Jeff_Foxworthy-Redneck_Games--3339.html

Still, I would like to know what all the sweeping's about.

All you wanted to know about curling. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/4464752.stm

After the delivery, the two sweepers stay ahead of the stone and brush frantically to make the ice surface slicker. By stopping the sweeping at a certain time, the stone can be slowed to finish up at a precise point.

The sweepers can only sweep in the area between two lines called tee lines.

I am sorry but curling is not a sport. Sport is where you get sweaty and hopefully bruised and bloody. Curling is a hobby at best and how it got to be an olympic sport is beyond me :-/ ::) ::) ;D

Well... some of us might've actually done this... :-[

I think most of the things in the Olypics aren't sports.  Dancing on ice skates is not a sport - it's dancing on ice skates.

Lawn bowls is an outdoor game in which a ball (known as a bowl) is rolled toward a smaller stationary ball, called a jack. The object is to roll your balls so that they come to rest nearer to the stationary ball than those of an opponent; this is sometimes achieved by knocking aside an opponent's ball or the stationary ball.
I must say, the U.K. sounds like an interesting place!  The most important thing though - are women involved in these events?  Otherwise I must make a note of staying away from these events... :o

Of course the ladies play bowls. This is the Wigan Ladies team circa 1920s. You wouldn't want to tangle with this lot. :o ;)

Maybe the name should be changed to Olympic Sweeping.  Nobody can sweep that fast and not get sweaty!  I bet the floors at those guys homes are REALLY clean.

Thanks Hagar, you've come through again!  I thought the sweeping had something to do with speed control but wasn't sure how.  I suppose the path of "the stone" can be altered slightly with the correct "sweeping".
