Hey, bbstackerf..

Can I  P L E A S E  have Holmgren back (Packer fan) ?

He's poised to be the first coach ever, two win SBs with two different teams..

ps. Favre's the greatest to ever play..Elway's a close second   ;)

Sorry but as much as I love Favre, He is no-where near the level as John Elway was, he will go down as one of the best to play the game, and I have said many times, I think he will be the last QB playing today to be classed alongside Montana, Elway and Young. ;) But hey thats just, my opinion:)

Yeah.. it's a tough.. opinion based comparison anyway (with loyalty mixed in).. And they all had peaks and valleys in their careers..

If it were purely stats then it's Marino.. purely SB winning then Bradshaw..

But all things equal (supporting team (Imagine if Favre got to play his whole career with Jerry Rice)).. taking each at their best..  Favre's the man.. Ever see Elway out throwing lead block (and actually taking out a linebacker) on a reverse ?

Three MVPs (no other player ever) and his 220+ straight games (he's NEVER missed a game.. ever)..  and all the stats (just a couple that Marino has (that are just ridiculous).. and a SB victory.. (and he's not done yet).. make him the  best ever..

I've seen Elway playing blocker a couple of times. I'd say if you ever need proof of what elway was willing to do, the superbowl win against the Packers was proof, his make shift run late in the 4th which resulted in him getting hit by 3 guys and spun in the air instead of taking a slide short of a 1st down showed his willingness to win.
As for Favre being done yet? He is, I think his recent "if I had to say now, then no I wont be back" comment was pretty much an indication. I dont think he has anything left to proove, his heads not in the game his heart isn't and as much as it pains me to say it. The guys going to retire this offseason. Packers fans especially need to prepair themselves for that.

Considering Favre has played 18 less games than Elway he still has another season and post season to play to be considered as "durable" He needs 9 wins to have a better record than Elway (who is the all time winningist QB) He needs to win another superbowl to tie Elways rings. And needs to appear in what? 2 or 3 more Superbowls to tie Elways appearance numbers (which are all that matter in the long run)
Also Elway is the only QB in history to pass for over 3000 yards and run for more than 200 yards in a single season.
This is one of those debates which could go on for years litterally.
"the drive" for instance ;D

For sure.. great debates about great players never end..

The consecutive starts (never missing a game (Elway's missed a few for injury)) settles the durability else George Blanda wins all arguments there. Super Bowl appearences/victories are to be taken into consideration .. but that's more a team thing or you could barely mention Marino... and

sorry Elway is the only qb to do 3000 passing and 200 rushing for 7 straight seasons.
he threw for 3000+ yards for 12 seasons
holds the record for 4th qtr comeback wins at 47.
9 time pro-bowl
Favre has the highest interception total of any QB :P ;D

Yeah and I corrected myself. As it was actually 3000+ passing yards and 200+ rushing yards for 7 straight seasons. Not just 1 or 2. Which is what hasn't been done before or since.
I think the "didn't have anyone around him" excuse can be used for Elway too. He had no-one really to help him on offense untill he got Terrell Davis, untill Shanahan took over and untill he got Sharpe and Mcaffrey, Smith and so on. Up until that point he was playing with a bunch of average players in most cases at best but still made it to the superbowl 3 times. I believe Elway also has the most wins in the playoffs. Although Marino has the highest winning percentage.

P.S. I'm now just waiting for Richie to come in and join in with his case for Montana and young ;D

Or..  someone's bound to come in a point out that we're neglecting the REALLY great QBs (called their own plays and played when you could actually tackle a quarterback.. Unitas, Starr, Baugh etc.).. 'cept we'd have them there..  Elway and Favre coulda done it.. they could have played back then..Montana and Marino wouldn't have lasted a season.

(I better duck now)
