I much prefer TMS to the TV. Nothing for me beats the time a few (7 ot 8 years perhaps) that they all left Blowers (Henry Blofeld) in the box all by himself, resulting in him having to entertain the R4 audience all by himself!

I think I've got Johnner's autobiography upstairs. I'll have to dig it out...

I just heard something on the radio to put all this in perspective. The last time England won the Ashes the average price of a cell phone was

The rules of cricket are quite simple really:

You have two sides: One out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When both sides have been in and out including the not outs,
That's the end of the game. ;)

Got that? ;D

I wonder if baseball is an evolution of cricket. The first British settlers tried to explain the game to the others ( Dutch, French, Italians, etc..). After over 3 hours of explanation... the italian guy replied...

So you throwa di ball, we whacka di ball! You notta expecting us to putte on di funny sweater,

Kinda bringing us back to the topic, I must say you Brits have produced some very hard-to-understand-at-first sports, such as snooker, tennis, curling, etc. But they are stylish and well worth to look into, cause once you've mastered the rules they are quite enjoyable! So I'd better go and read something about cricket, instead of making fun of it! lol!

Cricket is one of those games with a lot of tradition behind it. It's easier to understand if you were brought up playing it. It's popular all over the old British Empire & most of our former colonies are now much better at it than we are. ::) With a few notable exceptions "Johnny Foreigner" doesn't usually appreciate it at all.

Cricket is played in Belgium. http://www.cricketeurope.net/BELGIUM/index.shtml

PS. Could be wrong but I think tennis originated in France.

That link was hilarious!! I, being Indian, like cricket and I am currently following the New Zealand-Zimbabawe-India Triangular Series. So far New Zealand is in the lead, but we hope to catch up.  ;) :) :)

The off-side in cricket is the opposite side to the on-side...

You can tell which is which, as the off side is the side of the stump furthest from the batsmans leg (the off stump). Amazingly enough, the stump next to the batsmans leg is called the leg stump. The middle stump is called the middle stump, and the things on top of all three stumps are called the bails! ;D

...... and the bowler can hit the wicket and not get you out ....... Why? ...... because your bails have to drop  ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D
