John's show was real popular a year or so ago. Monday through Friday for a half hour.
Don't hear about him much anymore.

Remember this chap? Uri Geller
He came to England without a penny. He's now a multi-millionaire & living the life of luxury in a country mansion. It all started with bending spoons which any magician worth his salt can do without the benefit of psychic powers & can prove it. I remember him on the Jimmy Young show when he first arrived.

PS. He'll probably sue me now. ::)

Agree, Uri Geller was one of the biggest fake, but remember that was in the middle 60's &70's he also came to my country and I remember I was a child of course ;D and there were a lot of people who didn't belive it either,

Apart from Dave (Fly2E) I think that one of the best illusionists/ "magicians" of modern times is David Copperfield.  I've seen several of his illusions and they're extraordinary.

I prefer the term "illusionist" because while there's still some mystery involved, at least we KNOW we're seeing an "fake", but a masterful fake and we can enjoy the artistry behind it.

What about David Blaine... before he starting doing things like seeing how long he can survive inside a shoe box or whatever.

David Berglas is the finest illusionist I've ever seen. http://www.gelanti.dircon.co.uk/david_berglass/david_berglas.htm He was probably the first of the new generation of illusionists rather than magicians.
he began making appearances on television which soon led to his first series 'Meet David Berglas' in 1954.
..........

One feature of this series was David's verbal predictions of events that were about to happen! Remember that all television was transmitted live in those days - you can imagine the impact these shows had on audiences.

To me, this is not a religious discussion at all...although I do feel that this life is not the end for us. And I don't discount "psychic" gifts; I think there may be psychic  people out there. I'll even admit I've met at least one person I believe is "sensitive", though I could hardly prove it. Edgar Cayce (whose story I find interesting) described it thus: we are like islands. On the surface, we appear separate. But below the surface, we're all connected...
But  I also believe there's a sucker born every minute, and there will always be a John Edwards or two to earn a living off them.  ;D
He reminds me of Kreskin, who "astounded" people by guessing the name of a departed loved one in only three or four guesses (Wow!! ::)). I was on the theater crew for a few of his shows... the rest of his act didn't impress me, either, but boy, did the paying customers lap it up!! They were spellbound!!
I've only watched little bits of Edwards in action- has he ever done his thing for someone who was not already convinced he was a genuine medium? Aren't those who come to him desperate and emotionally vulnerable?
I've heard of others (usually the evangelical types) who use spies in the audience before the show to gather overheard information. Is it not possible? There are many tricks; it's an ancient profession.
As for the guy I know who may be "sensitive": one thing that helps me believe is the fact that he doesn't charge a dime for his services, and wouldn't dream of doing it on TV. ;D
