Well I think we will be going for Tesco's. There isn't a massive difference between 512 and 1mb and for the same price we get unlimited bandwidth - and without crazy How dare you pinch that bandwidth letters coming through! ;D

Funny thing is, after filling-in the Tesco questionnaire for Internet usage, they still recommend dial-up "Anytime" for me....NOT Broadband....
So it looks as tho' I'm better off sticking to low-cost,

Hi Paul,

I remeber that!

Actually, I was on the good old Dial up, I managed to exceed 24 hours use in a 48 hour period.  :o ;) ;D

Classic case of, I did'nt read the small print, also, I had my dial up set to auto re-connect, so I could download programs etc

I'd check out NTL  Paul, they've got the monopoly around these parts, but, a very good service they provide. :)

Paul.

P.S.
You hav'nt played games until you've played them on-line. Humans make ,in the main, better opponents.

To think all those people slamming their phones down and cursing you Foz! :o

I think you should still get broadband as you will find your usage will increase! ;D Once you have it you won't look back.

...tell me about it...all my kids go mad...!!!

The one really good thing about Dial-up, Evenings and Weekends, is that I can go shopping, do the washing, cut my grass, go for a ride, have a shower, visit the kids, get told off, etc, etc, before I can go on-line AFTER 6 PM each evening.... :o...!
....and I don't loose the use of my legs by sittng on this bleedin' chair for 18 hours a day plugged into bleedin' Broadband..... :'(...!

Good luck with that, Paul... I almost don't want to say what I've got.
But ...OK, here's my deal... ;D:
Real cable broadband (that's on a big fat coax "pipeline" just like cable TV); 24/7, 100MBps... and if I were alone on the deal, it'd be $50 US/mo. With TV, etc., it'd be more, but I don't need cable TV.
That's a little stiff, but manageable, esp. since I share the connection (via router) with five other people!! $8US/mo.!!! It's like breaking the law, I tell ya... and with a cable-modem connection, all six of us can be on at the same time, downloading God-knows-what-size files or streaming media, and it doesn't so much as hiccup. Every now and then the routers freak out (been months; better knock wood!), but it's a pretty solid setup.
Sorry, don't mean to gloat; it's this Yellowtail Shiraz I'm quaffing, I think... *hic*...  ;D

Paul ........... I'd avoid Tiscali .......... they're cheap for several reasons  ;) ;) customer service and reliablility, or lack of both, being the two main ones.

Wanadoo aren't bad, however I've just had a lovely run in with them concerning usage....... BT will enforce limits to the number and cut you off without notice however their deals are amongst the best at the moment. AOL (Even though I don't like them) actually have the best deals atm as they have unlimited usage and faster speeds.

Yeah AOL are offering the same package as Tesco - but traditionally they were always the expensive one.

Hi eno...!
The one thing I really like about my low cost, Freeserve (Wanadoo), dial-up, Evenings and Weekends is that there is no limit on my connection time...
(This delights Jordan)... :P...!
...just checking on my bill again...
601 dial-up connections...627 hours on-line...in 3 months... ;D...!
...and not a word of protest from Freeserve... 8)...!

A survey of my requirements of usage from the Internet still shows that the best system for me is still 56k Dial-up...(no big downloads!)....at
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Hi Lads and Lasses...!

Thanks for all the replies and Instant Messages....
....but I notice that all the alternative packages put severe restrictions on the weekly/monthly time spent on the Internet....as well as costing loadsa money....!
Whereas my cheap-o, 56k Dial-up set-up has no such restrictions....
...only that it is rather slow at 56kb/s... ;)...!
At the moment I can sit in my comfy chair and connect/re-connect as many times as I like and remain on-line for the duration of my alotted time....6PM-6AM weekdays...6PM Friday-6AM Monday on Weekends...
...with no nasty warnings of the Heavy Gang coming round to knee-cap me for "over-usage".... :'(...!
LOL...!

Cheers all...!

Paul...56k...comfy chair...tea in the pot.... 8)...!
