it looks more or less like every other flying bus... there hasn't been an original looking airliner for years  :-/

The most beautiful aircraft are still regional turboprops. Except the Dash-8 'though.

Just my opinion, beyond if its ugly or not,I think ill be dangerous, like the closest competition of the 747, the dc10 which took many lifes,in the 70's .I don' know i got this strange feeling, that will be the most unsafe thing, cause its too heavy (with all passenger and bagage inside) some of you will laugh of me now ,but some day not too far away, you will remember me....... 8)

The An-26 is the military version of the An-24 and thus no regional turboprop. Furthermore, it has only four-bladed props. ;D

Size is relative & no reason it should be any more dangerous than a smaller aircraft. I assume they got their sums right & it has sufficient wing area. I've mentioned before that I remember the same objections being made about the 747 when it first appeared. The worst disaster with that was when two collided on the ground & apart from the number of passengers involved had nothing to do with the size of the aircraft. I also remember the problems with the DC-10 which were caused by a flaw in the design. Once this was fixed it became as safe as any other airliner but unfortunately this gave it a bad reputation.* Even now I would rather not fly on one. A similar thing happened to the DH Comet but after months of testing the later version became one of the safest aircraft ever built.

In my experience the passenger has very little say in the matter. In most cases they would go for the cheapest seat & not know for certain which type they're flying on until they're actually aboard the aircraft. This can sometimes be changed at short notice. On one occasion the 747 I was booked on went U/S & they replaced it with the DC-10 hangar queen. I was none too happy about this but it was either that or wait until the following day. None of the seat numbers matched & we had to find our own seats. Nothing to do with the aircraft but I didn't particularly enjoy that flight.

I'd get on a DC10 over a 747 any day. Never had a problem with them, never felt unsafe while onboard.

I know how you feel about the DC-10 Craig but being younger you weren't affected by the bad publicity surrounding several disasters. The Turkish Airlines incident at Paris in 1974 was the worst air disaster at the time & the aircraft was grounded by the FAA. The bad publicity over this & several similar accidents affected Freddie Laker when he set up his Skytrain service from Gatwick to New York using the DC-10 in 1977. He risked his reputation by insisting the aircraft was safe & welding up the offending cargo door to give the passengers more confidence. It didn't help that Douglas (like most aircraft manufacturers) refused to admit liability & airline or airport employees were originally blamed for these incidents. This prevents the real cause being identified & remedial action being taken.

Oh i understand why you were nervous about it. one aircraft going down is bad enough to a potential passenger but a bunch of them would be enough to put anyone off. but certainly these days theres nothing to fear.
