I watched that movie on a cross channel ferry and wasn't too impressed. Having said that the theme on which is runs is highly likely and seems to have been the cause of the last iceage at least.

As for the planes being grounded and the higher temeratures, well, if the temperatures were higher only in a small area then fair enough. But to have temperatures two or three degree's higher across an entire continent then it's a different matter and the two are most likely related. :P

Global warming is not scientific fact.

Maybe not. But the melting of the polar icecaps is a fact not to be sneezed at and if the earth was not warming up then why would the icecaps be melting? :P

The Global Dimming theory stems from the effects of major natural events on the atmosphere. Volcanos, forest fires and dust storms all lower global temperatures and can do in a major fashion. Contrails, all be it, on a smaller scale have the same effect.

World temperatures have risen since most of the industrialised countries stopped using coal as their major source of power.

The following link is to a short artical relating to the documentary that put forward the theories of Global dimming.

Because as long as there has been an earth to warm up and cool down, there have been atmospheric shifts a few degrees in either direction.  It's been going on since day one, and it's going to continue well after we're gone.  There is more evidence to support this than any of the tree hugging, people and industry are evil theories...

It's a long time since I was at school & most things I was taught have changed anyway

Yup the world is round and there is a lot more history now. Oh and Christopher was wrong, those islands were not near India.
Oh and Copernicus was wrong on his solar system theory...
And err well I think you get the idea ;) I'm going to leg it now before I get hit over the head with a walking stick or a flat-cap ;D

I KNOW THAT MOVIE IS REDICULOUS!

THERE WAS A IRISHMAN MEASURING TEMPERATURE IN FARENHEIT!  AN IRISHMAN! IN FARENHEIT! has the world gone insane?

Greatness. ;D This will do me good.  While everyone says, "Well, I think..." I can toss around Global Dimming and such!  Plus, it sounds really good when you say "according to the BBC..." ;D ;)

Eno's right though.  I remember a bit from popular science along the same lines.  It's in their online archives as well.
