I know I'm being silly & that these things are all done with the best of intentions. No matter how ridiculous some people make it by rigidly sticking to regulations (believe me I've experienced plenty of that in my time ::)) there's plenty of worse things I could be complaining about.

Having a rant about this made me feel better anyway. ;D

Its getting worse and worse. Anyone walking on a aircraft pan (or at least on if a group) has to have a yellow jacket. At the moment at work the aircrew are desperately trying to fight of the safety people who are know saying that they should wear yellow bibs walking from the sqn to the flightline. Even when there aren;t any aircraft around, if you're crossing the pan, then you need a jacket, or you have to walk around the edge. It's got even worse since the tragic incident with the fork lift at work last month.

I've got to add to this, I just can't help it  ;D

"Bad decisions regarding safety are worse than no safety at all" (a sign over my desk). The problem with a lot of these decisions is that they are made by "experts", what should happen is that changes are made in consultation with the people that it will affect. There is a specific piece of legislation that covers this, snappily titled

My pet hate is people who use H&S as an 'arse covering' exercise, yes granted I want to keep my job and keep the chairman out of court, but my main drive is to keep the operatives (many of whom I know socially) in one piece and able to keep providing for their families. I could go on about this all day, but I won't. I've just realised as well that this is my longest post to date and I hope I haven't gone too far off topic.

Not at all Smashie. You & Charlie have convinced me that I was right & not alone in this after all.

As for arse covering, this shot I took at Shoreham last Sunday is what made me think about all this & post this topic. :D

We are very restrictive of the use of "Traffic Vests"

And notice the word TRAFFIC. We only use them at scenes of accidents, or where we're in the roadway, in traffic for a long period of time. We don't wear them all the time for the reason you stated - if there's so many of them, you'll get used to them and the entire purpose is defeated. They sure are nice at night.

Talking of common sense Hagar.....I was watching an "airline" type show on UK TV this week and the guy who was in charge of airport safety was on his round checking for loose bits of concrete or tools left on the runways (he found a pair of pliers) etc....pulled and bo**ocked one of the workers who was wearing his Hi-Vis UNDER his donkey jacket.............make you wonder eh?....commoner ::)

Says it all really. Can't say I'm surprised. ::)

I can see the funny side of it. You need a sense of humour to stop the pain of banging your head against the wall in frustration. ;)

The thing that never fails to tickle me, is observing a group of people standing around all wearing hard hats*, when there is obviously no chance whatsoever of anything dropping on their heads....
....unless, of course they are likely trip over and fall on their heads... ;)...!

I once saw a man building a foot high wall wearing a hard hat. He was doing this in the middle of an open area and he never had to lift anything higher than chest hight. Yet he still wore the hard hat. Presumably as protection against meteorites.

In my limited experience the executives walk around building sites in their smart white bump hats looking like prats while the guys actually doing the work don't wear them. ;D
