If you look at it as "ooh the nazis did terrible things" then so did the vikings. Now who's ever caused an international outrage over dressing up as a viking?

I looked in the daily mail today and the first 12 pages were solely Prince Harry related. I mean come on, isn't there any real news?

Lets face it, he isnt the sharpest knife in the drawer. I think its safe to say, we can be thankful he wont ever be King. Well barring any unfortunate events.

...well described, Craig... ;D...!

I'm in favour of our Royal Family in general, but they do produce some strange individuals every now and again.. ::)...!
...and this one is an example... ;)... ;D...!

For any of you who don't think wearing a swastika is a big deal, how do you think a jew, or any other person imprisoned in a concentration camp feels when they see it in public, or in the news? You can't diminish the significance of a specific evil act by comparing it to another. Woodlouse, if you or your family were persecuted by the vikings, I'm sure you wouldn't be too thrilled at seeing anything that represented vikings. I don't think anyone who has not had a personal experience (through family) with the nazis can ever understand the impact a moronic gesture like Harry's can have. If a hells angel cut your tongue out and terrorised your family, would you appreciate seeing their emblems and logos? Ever?

Clipper calm down chap ;)
What we're all saying is it is wrong, but the media need to get some perspective (Woodies comment), afterall throughout all ages of mankind we've done terrible things to each other. I live near the former Yugoslavia (about 30 mins drive), and they've done things that would make 99.99% of people puke...
Yes fascism was wrong, but so were many other things. The media have made this into something it wasn't because it sells their papers...

I'm with Woody and Exploder on this one.  He wore the uniform the same reason that the media is reporting it, why people have Third Reich fetishes and why Nazis always end up in movies.  It catches your eye and it sells.  I understand the oppositions arguments, but that was 60 years ago.  Going on 70 actually.

Next person I see wearing a Viking costume, I'm protesting! ::) :P

I did say I had nothing to say on this subject but that was purely concening this particular incident. I prefer to keep my opinions on that to myself.

In a broader case, I imagine the Crusaders insignia that ATI mentioned is equally abhorrent to some sections of the community. Although the terrible atrocities commited under this emblem happened centuries ago the Red Cross is still so hated in Moslem countries that they have their own Red Crescent organisation. I wonder if the same fuss would have been made if a member of the royal family or anyone else turned up at a fancy dress party in a Crusader's outfit. One other thing while I'm about it. If these outfits are so objectionable, which they obviously are, how come they're readily available in an ordinary hire shop?

Hoo-boy...::)

I have been to the Holocaust Museum here...it's a very sober experience.

I think what Harry did was insensitive...

I also take Heretic's points as well.  The Swastika was not always a symbol of hate (it once represented the sun).

Another symbol that has undergone some changes is the Christian Roman Cross...it once represented a grueling death (death by Crucifixion is a really bad one).

But back to the subject...I believe I would be correct that none of us thinks what Harry did was charming or funny (I don't think even Heretic thinks so).  My step-sister is Jewish, and I have done a bit of research of Judaism.

Of course, if some non-royal had done such a thing...nobody would have batted an eyebrow.  Considering certain current events in the U.S. however, I find myself uninterested in Harry's antics..::)

:)Hey everyone, in retrospect, I may have overdramatized my points, I wasn't in any way  implying that anyone here condones Naziism. It's just frustrating than anyone would think what Harry did was anything less than insensitive and completely inappropriate. I do agree that the media turned the incident into a three ring circus, but royalty is royalty. And who knows? Maybe Harry has certain dark and secret sentiments only he is aware of. It's not unthinkable.....
