Oh yeah...it's a swear word across the pond...
Not only on this side of the pond. It's only a mild expletive & I can think of plenty worse. The word ball or balls has many different meanings. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=balls
As Fozzer so eloquently puts it, it's all a load of balls to me. Take that whichever way you like.
