[quote]Ah, reminds me of a funny story..

Once upon a time when I was about 14-15 years old I did something so bad I can't even remember what it was...something stupid I'm sure, and my mom said wait until your father gets home...

So he came home, found out what I'd done and began to lash at me with his belt... When the tip of the belt broke off he turned it around and used the buckle.

I was spanked a few times when I was younger, 4-5... But my parents are old school :P and thier parents punished them that way. Granted, I never got the belt, but my dad sure served up some good ones. :) I deserved too. Once I got my mouth washed out with soap because I learned the "F" word that day in school... Well, didn't reallyy learn it, but heard it. So me, being a natural second-grader got home that day and walked up to my mom and said, "Mommy, what does fuc* mean?"...

::)

But back to the original topic, I believe it can be used when necessary. But in moderation.

I've been asked what the legal def. of assault is. I've copied directly from the O.R.S.

163.160 Assault in the fourth degree. (1) A person commits the crime of assault in the fourth degree if the person:

     (a) Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes physical injury to another; or

     (b) With criminal negligence causes physical injury to another by means of a deadly weapon.

     (2) Assault in the fourth degree is a Class A misdemeanor.

     (3) Notwithstanding subsection (2) of this section, assault in the fourth degree is a Class C felony if the person commits the crime of assault in the fourth degree and:

     (a) The person has previously been convicted of assaulting the same victim;

     (b) The person has previously been convicted at least three times under this section or under equivalent laws of another jurisdiction and all of the assaults involved domestic violence, as defined in ORS 135.230; or

     (c) The assault is committed in the immediate presence of, or is witnessed by, the person

Been there and done that as well. I became quite a connoisseur of soap....lol....for using the same word also. My half brother flipped me the bird one day and I yelled out to my mom, "Hey, he just gave me the sign for F---k You!" ....lol....got my mouth washed out really good for that one. My mom always hated that word the worst. Wouldn't have been so bad, but in her haste to give me a clean mouth....lol....she stuck a bar of "Lava Soap" in my mouth. That soap tasted awful, like a soap flavored sanding block, very gritty....my personal favorite was, "Ivory" soap....lmao.

Ok, I'll admit I was far from an angel at times.....lol.

I'm going to use California's Penal Code system because it covers all 50 state's laws about child abuse.

Penal Code Section 11165 enacted in 1980 is part of the child abuse reporting law (Section 11161.5). This section defined child abuse as evidenced by:

1. Physical injury which is inflicted by other than

accidental means on a child by another person.

2. Sexual assault on a child.

3. Willful cruelty or unjustifiable punishment (any act or

omission proscribed by Penal Code Section 273a).

4. Cruel or inhuman corporal punishment or injury.

5. Severe and general neglect of a child.

6. Abuse in out-of-home care, including "negligent" abuse.

All this legal jargon is all very well but I assume this would vary from state to state in the US & be completely different in other countries. It seems perfectly obvious to me that a small smack administered on the spot by a loving parent is not, & should not be, classified as assault. All it takes is a little common-sense which seems to be sadly lacking these days. Everything has to written down in stone or nobody takes any notice. ::)

Once I got my mouth washed out with soap because I learned the "F" word that day in school... Well, didn't reallyy learn it, but heard it. So me, being a natural second-grader got home that day and walked up to my mom and said, "Mommy, what does fuc* mean?"...

This is a perfectly natural question for any child to ask. I'm sure my daughter asked me or her Mum the same question. We would have told her enough to satisfy her curiosity & ask her not to use it herself.

PS. Too many children wouldn't need to ask nowadays as their parents use it while cursing them & each other.

At times....yep, I sure was.....had a bit to much of my mothers side of the family's genes for mischief in me. Her brother's were absolutely rotten....lol.....they admit it too....lol....we'd all sit around and get a good olle chuckle out of their antics.

I agree with you 100%....my ex-wife is quite a scholar in abuse of the English language. She is an absolute master of profanity and I'd stack her against a group of drunken sailors swearing and she'd win!

LOL!! I have had the displeasure of tasting both Lava and Ivory soap!
Lava soap actually has lasting effects, such as no taste for a few days. And Ivory really isn't that bad.
But see even kids now days are lucky almost all homes use liquid soap ;)

Also if you look at all who tell of being spanked notice that all admit that they deserved it.
This itself proves that disipline worked, it worked on me and everytime that I was spanked I deserved it.
But let me re-count what was said earlier, there is a fine line,  I belive in spanking but DO NOT belive in physical abuse!!

Even though I often sound as if I hate kids, I really don't, I just hate seeing how they are('nt) raised and am really getting fed up by reading in the paper or watching the news and hearing about how the most recent one died, be it drugs, violence, drinking and driving etc.. It is all senseless and doesn't need to be that way ;)

I actually( even though many of my post don't show it) do a lot of work with young adults, I develop programs that get them interested in Aviation, I use my own alcohol abuse stories to let them learn from someone who has been there done that. They learn first hand that if they want to be "cool" and drink or do drugs then they can forget about flying, and all of us here know how much of a real "Buzz" you can get flying ;)
My main goal is to try and change the outcome of a childs life, and if I can achive that with just one then my work has been done ;)

Lmao... Sounds just like my sister :P

I've been given a few of the best when I've been naughty, but just enough to make me catch a wakeup!

I used to know a kid who used to run away when he saw his stepfather's car drive towards the house, I don't know what happened to the guy in the end, they moved away, but I wish somebody would have knocked the crap out of the guy's stepfather, he came across as a real a$$h*le!

I got spanked when I was a child, I did not turn out bad. My dad is in Law Enforcement now and when I was a child. I got tail tore up on a regular bases.
When my children were younger(5 to 10) I would spank them if what they did was sever enough but, not to the level of child abuse. Now that my kids are a little older(11 and 14) I don't have to spank them. They are some of the most well behaved and polite kids you will ever see. I am proud of both of them.
My neighbors kids never get disciplined (spanking)and are some of the worst inconsiderate kids you will ever see. Just today these two kids were wrote up on the bus for making racial comments to the bus driver. You give me 24 hrs with these brats.

I think spanking does help. My goodness look at the world today. People(parents) don't care about or what there kids are doing. Mainly because the parents are too f***ed up on crack to even want to care. This I guess is a whole nother issue.

I should state that I haven't spank them 10 or 30 times like I got. Just one or two licks, thats it. Its there pride thats hurt more than there bottom.

Irish Spring is the best!
