Yes some ABC stations had the balls too air the movie but my local station didn't and recieved a letter form me. In place of the movie they decided it would be more benificial to air a rerun of Oprah (of all things!)

Here is what really burns my ass.
Censorship is a way of removing one of my rights as a American,

Saving Private Ryan is a ,movie about the men and women that fought and died for me to have that right,

Veterans Day is a day that we reflect on and remember those who served (are serving) to protect those rights and who allow us to have the freedoms we have.

The action by most ABC stations is in fact a slap in the face of all who served . And on Veterans Day no less!!!

I'm so sick and tired of everyone one trying to "protect" me by making sure that I'm not offended in anyway.
And especially those who feel they must "protect the children" , bullsh*t!!! It is the parents responsibility to "protect thier children" not the FCC, ABC, Government etc.

It is real easy to change a channel if something you deem inappropriate comes on, but it isn't easy to accept the fact that men and women died to give you that right to even own a TV.

The only way you can stop the FCC is not to bow down too them all that ABC did is help tighten the noose around our necks and give more power to the FCC.

Great way of showing respect to our Veterans.

This is apparently what started all this nonsense. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/3681326.stm
What a storm in a tea cup (or B cup if you like). ::) Like it or not, enough people must have complained about seeing a female nipple (shock horror :o) for this FCC to take action. No TV network is going to risk being fined every time they show something that could be judged offensive. They would soon be out of business.

PS. I don't know if it's ever been screened in the UK but I would imagine that a film like Private Ryan would be shown uncut on British TV.  Ever country has its own idea on what's likely to affect public morals.

Like i pointed out in my first post doug, it lasted less than 1/2 second, and wasnt clear. It was only when some website pointed it out and radio stations started to make a big deal about it, that the general public realised what happend. Then the law suits started to roll in ::)

It also makes you ask (refering to the boob shot)

How old must a person be for it to be considered offensive to bare something on TV?

You see all those ads with naked children running around butt naked and it is "cute" , too me it is child porn.
Thats right let the child molester get off on seeing naked kids in ads But you show a grown woman partially clad and all hell breaks loose! Clearly doesn't make any sense!

It seems they seperate what is offensive and what is "cute" based on puberty, and plain stupidity.

I don't think naked children are allowed to be shown on British TV thanks to the perverts & so-called paedophiles. >:( The sight of a naked child never offended me, in fact I think it's charming. The point is, where do you draw the line? No matter how liberated they might think they are everyone has their own hang-ups on what they consider decent.

Like Jeff says its censorship of the worst form, and I would say an insult to those veterans who risked their lives for our freedom. Maybe the veterans should sue the FCC ;D ;D ;D

The FCC has been censoring the media long before the Janet Jackson thing.  Just ask Howard Stern.  Not that he's the first person to be sensored by the FCC, there have been many which have come before (and countless others who didn't air what they wanted for fear of being censored).

I for one think the FCC and other government bodies shouldn't have any influence on broadcast content (TV, radio, internet, print, film, nothing).  Yes that means that parents will need to assume the role of censor for their children.  Yes, that means a 5 year old should be allowed in to a porn movie.  Yes that means that "Faces of Death" should be allowed to air on prime time network TV.  Yes, it means you may turn on the TV with your children and see gay porn.  IMO freedom of speach is FAR more important than being inconvenienced by any of the above.
