Hi Doug and Paul :)

It is a wonderful sunny but cool day here and it is Thankgiving Day.

I have my computer set up in a separate room in our home, my original plan was to try and buy a LINK Trainer and move it in here but I could not obtain one.  I know where there are four of them besides the Museum and the Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Ontario alone.   No one wants to part with them.
I have a metal Q Hut for the 172 and it will hold three or four aircraft, but the barn is empty.  It used to tie up 42 cattle, heated milk house and a solid loft which will hold several tractors and equipment.
No computer here but this is where the old girl sends me to stand in the corner when I bugger up her "D. R. O.s" (Daily Routine Orders)  :)LOL
Well I told her this morning at breakfast she mad me feel like a Greek God..."burnt offerings again" so you see I do spend some time in the barn :)LOL

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I think it's going to be just the three of us in the barn, discussing sensible aeroplanes, having fun on Doug's 'puter, flying rag and tube machines, and being occasionally fed and watered by Mrs Flying Trucker... 8)...!

...sounds good to me...
...none of this "political" stuff... ;D...!

LOL...!

Cheers both... ;)...!

Paul....(The Elderly Gentleman's Flying Club)... ;)...!

I like the sound of that.* ;D When do we set out for Doug's place?  I'm not fussy where I sleep. A dry spot in the barn will do me nicely. ;D

*Particularly the fed & watered part. I'm not used to being fussed over these days. ;)

While I'd love to be able to discuss politics with you all, I do agree that this isn't the place.
Great edit, Bob.

Well I can agree on both sides of this.

I can remember political topics getting out of hand and the reason like mentioned before is that one side wouldn't listen and think about the other side before typing something back in haste.
Which truly should stay away from here!

As for the G.W. banner I see nothing wrong with it, it wasn't a topic of discussion, it didn't tell you to vote, after all I see it as no different that all these banners promoting websites! A favorite sports team etc,That banner was as political as Spocks post on his favorite books which by the way are both written  by Democrats bashing Republicians.

Think about it that topic shows two well known politically involved men and everyone in the world know what they represent, just the same as we all know who G.W. is. No differance.

I have seen both Kerry and Bush displayed in a few of the forums here and links to stories about them posted here and nothing is said about that, once again no different, someone apparently got thier panties in a wad and was offended by someone else supporting someone they belive in, stupid!!

As for Freedom of speech that is something I love and cherish and these forums allow it to a extent, you know when joining what you can and cannot do or say, if you don't like it you don't join so that isn't taking away your Freedom of Speech. Also you must remember that this is a freedom here in the U.S. and not all countries. Really when you think about it there are people here that this may be the only place where they can enjoy that freedom!

But rules are rules and even though I seen nothing wrong with the banner , in the end "politics" had it removed, funny isn't it?

My opinion for what its worth.

You must consider Fret that a lot of us on these forums are not from America and the last thing we want is to have Kerry/Bush banners shoved in our faces. Personally i'm fed up with the presidential elections. In England the whole thing is over in one night. In America you manage to spin it out to a year. Now personally i'm fine with that. But I get sick of hearing about it on the news and I don't want to hear about it here.

I can also assure you that there will be no "Vote Conservitive/Labour/Lib dem banners in the English sig's when we have our elections next year.

I understand that many here are not from America, and I too agree with the fact that it is enough to make anyone sick having to see, hear, about the elections 24/7, but let us not forget that similar political banners, pop up in the form of ads right here on top of just about every page at SimV.
The only differance is that those ads generate money for the site, and not once have I heard anyone ask that they be removed, which make me ask which is worse? Are they allowed  because they generate money?

p.s. Of course you might not see them, I don't know if the above banner ads are location specific?

Yes but the popups were removed when they were mentioned to Pete.

As for the signatures, I think if you're going to have a no politics rule, it needs to go across the board.  I'd also agree, however, that allowing linking to politically motivated stories would be a bit hypocritical.  (Maybe that's a bit harsher word than I'm going for, but you know what I mean.)

I think you might be right there. I don't ever remember seeing a single political banner of any sort on this forum or the whole SimV site for that matter.

Like many of my countrymen I'm not a political animal & have little interest in the subject. We tend not to take politics or politicians too seriously here. However, I keep up with current affairs & can usually tell quite a lot about most regulars here by reading between the lines in their comments. I spotted the political implications in Spock's "book" topic before anyone replied to it. The fact that this topic is still alive should prove how leniently the rules are applied here. If I'd been a mod I would have deleted it without a second's thought before it turned nasty. That's why I'm not a mod. ::) ;)

It also proves what a sensible lot we are here but allowing unrestricted political discussion would not be a good idea. IMHO
Let's keep this place unique. A little virtual haven where we can leave the worries of the world behind for a while. ;)

This is a SIM forum, there is NO need for politics here. We are a pretty friendly group of people but it probably not be that way if people were allowed to talk politics and/or religion here.

I think people need to remember this isn't an American site.  Even if it was, it is a slice of internet owned by a person (Good Sir Pete ;)), not by America.  It is therefore a dictatorship.  If he decides to allow freedom, so be it.  If not, well then tough noodles. ;) Just because you're American, doesn't mean anywhere you go you're going to get your Bill of Rights.  If you go to North Korea territory, you're going to have to play by their rules.  If you venture into Pete's territory, you're going to have to play by his rules. ;)

I got a bit involved, but this is the complaint that most bothers me here. :P ;)

I mean it's bad enough that I have to look at WEBB's offensive avatar at every post he makes!!!

We'll see in November, won't we.

Back on track, I have never seen anything in the American constitution that might require a private party to grant me freedom of speech.  If I write a letter to the newspaper they have the right not to publish it, don't they?  "Freedom of expression" means that the government can't restrict your right to expression.  Whether you can convince someone else to publish it is not covered.
