while i agree the seller technically did nothing wrong, you have to ask if it was ethical, it wouldnt be accepted if a store tried to do that. Chalk one up to experience on both the part of the bidders and the seller.

But reported him for what?  Truth in advertising?

Exactly, absolutly nothing wrong with the add, I'm behind the seller on this one, he shouldn't be banned from Ebay may the buyer but everything the seller did was legal!!
Clearly stated what he was selling.

Well, I'm making sure I don't trade with you guys on ebay! ;)
I think it's disgusting and disgraceful and most rotten.

Ben ;D

EDIT: Yeah, good point Craig. Didn't see your post when I posted this. :)

So Hyperion you agree of making money out of people who haven't got a good education? There are many people who would never be so dishonest and would never do that to anyone. Yet their simple minds haven't enabled them to see through it. ::)
I know nothing about your family, but lets says this happened to your Grandad who was in his late 70s or 80s. He had been a working man all his life and someone got $165 out of him like that.
Now, tell me. Would you have said that about your Grandad? Cuz I don't think much of anyone who would say  Yes to that.

I have absolutely no problem at all with someone getting stuck with something when it was clearly mentioned TWICE (plus photos) what was being sold.  If my grandfather were stupid enough (thank God he isn't) to buy a box from someone selling A BOX, then nope...no problems at all with that.

The guy didn't at all mislead ANYONE in this sale.  He clearly stated what was for sale, and that was what was bid on.  If someone can't take the time to figure out what is being sold, I have no sympathy from them.

As for a store doing this, it would be perfectly legal.  They clearly mark what they're selling, and someone buys it.  Where's the crime?

And in regards to the ethics of the transaction, again I'll remind you that TWICE the seller said what he was selling...after that you're on your own.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

I don't understand those of you calling this dishonest and un-ethical?
Give me one piece of evidence that this sale was misleading, dishonest or un-ethical, you won't because you can't!
The auction was plain as day as to what the guy was selling, he started at a low bid, the price became high because people didn't read the listing.
It isn't the seller who did anything wrong because he stated plainly what it was he was selling.
The stupidity of the buyer is what should be talked about. The buyers assumed it was more than a box, where if they read the whole listing, actually just the title itself then they would have known.
Another thing is obvious is that no one seemed to have though about asking the seller about the item. I for one whenever buying anything electronic will ask questions before bidding, so if a question was asked and the seller stated there was a radio then that would be dishonest, misleading etc.
Who are any of you to say what can be sold on Ebay and what is un-ethical  or dishonest to sell?
What if I had a tire to sell and someone bought it for a large sum of money. would I be dishonest if I only had the sale for one tire and that was explained in the listing but the buyer ASSUMED that I was selling a set of 4?
In your definition I guess the answer would be yes, because not many people buy just one tire. But why should I be held responsible for the buyers actions?

And mind you a persons lack of education has nothing to do with this, you don't need to go to school to get common sense!

I almost think that the ones stating this is so wrong to sell a box at auction, must have themselves at one time gave out a lot of cash without knowing the facts before hand.

As for not trading with me that is fine, I have read your posts and seen you complain about not having money anyway for add-ons or computer upgrades, so you would just be a deadbeat bidder anyway.  ;D ;D
