Wasn't trying to start a fight, just trying to make a point.

I understand that it would be thier job and they would if ordered to but to say they "wanted to" isn't correct.
A statement like that is like your answering for anyone whomever wore a uniform.
The reason I said " go ask a pilot" is because I actually have before and was told that it is thier greatest fear, being ordered to shoot down a civilian aircraft. So NO they don't want to but will if need be!

I see what you mean. The intent for shooting it down would have been to save more lives, not to get 'a kill'. However, I think you might have exaggerated a bit when you said

they were being sent to shoot down a 757 full of civilians to prevent that airplane from being used as a weapon to kill thousands of other innocents

I think areas which would have been thought to be targeted or at threat would have been evacuated.
