Pertaining to ozzy's post: Just recently around here a guy blew an outhouse up by lighting a cigarette in it and suffered 2nd degree burns, he didn't go supersonic but I'll bet he wished he could have to get to the hospital.

Eno basically gave the reason for the concorde removal. Airbus stopped producing the parts for concorde once Air France pulled it from service. No other company could afford to make these parts for just one company. It is this reason why Branson would never have gotten the plane. Had the parts still been made then BA wouldnt have pulled it from service With or without air france. Infact it would have been easier towards the end to not have air france as they were constantly borrowing pieces from BA for their planes.
As for a swing wing design, not a chance boeing looked into and soon realised that it would always be both to complex for every day maintanence and to expensive to have to constantly repair.
What people dont seem to realise is. Concordes Design was as close to perfect as you could get. Its failing was in the engines and even those were pretty darn good. Noisey fuel guzzling engines are the only sort that can be used to power this sort of plane to Mach1 and until that changes you wont see another one.

Maybe the concorde's passengers grew tired of eating beans and cabbage.

Sorry, I just had to say that!

Actually maybe someday technology will advance to a point where new more powerful and more fuel efficient engines will be developed allowing for supersonic travel.  The aircraft will probably have to have a large passenger capacity to make it economical.

This still doesn't overcome the problem that dogged Concorde all its operational life. The effect of the sonic boom over populated areas. There's not much point in having an SST if it can't fly at supersonic speed for much of its journey. I can remember only a few years ago people around here complaining about the faint double boom of the Air France flights out of Paris. I hardly noticed them myself but they had to change the flight path because of it. I thought this was a shame as I could set my watch by them.

LMAO - I cook my dinner using my "natural gas".

P.O.A - Don't EVER get on a plane after curried beans and a tikka masala. ;D

Good luck to Gulfstream! ;)
