Another one:

Red Bay, Alabama, is about 300 miles inland and not near a river.  Maybe it was named after a bay (reddish-brown) horse, but then the name would be a bit redundant:  a red reddish-brown horse ???

These aren't really strange, but I noticed a few other posts of foreign-named US cities, sooo..

Paris, Ky
London, Ky

(remember "The People vs. Larry Flint" ... "These two lovely girls are from Paris and London....... Kentucky")

Frankfort, Ky (our capital city, spelled a bit different than Frankfurt, Germany, but still..)
Manchester, Ky
Glasgow, Ky
Lebanon, Ky
Versailles,

Cornwall is the capital for strange names.

Flushing - Cornwall
Looe - Cornwall

I think there might be a place called Sheepdip round here too...
