[quote]Sorry if that came accross a little "in your face" Felix, I'm at work and a little distracted LOL ::)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think that the Lancaster is the most beautiful four engined A/C ever flown.

#1: Bf 109 - 'Though she seems to be very small, underarmed and weak she actually was one of the best front fighters of WW2 and many of the Luftwaffe's aces scored their first victory with her.

#2: T.S.R. - From the 1960s. With updated avionics, this thing could be still one of the best bombers of today.

#3: F-16C - Multirole at its best. 8)

This is an impossible question to answer.
Logically I would have agree with Felix & go for the DC-3, Boeing 747 & C-130. Note they are all airliners/transports.

My own personal favourites include the Sea Fury, Hunter & Harrier but there are far too many to list.

For flying brick I nominate the Slingsby T.31 Cadet Mk III glider on which I obtained my gliding licence.

1. Hurricane
2. Concorde
3. Harrier

Although I would have chosen the Spitfire instead of the Hurricane, the Hurricane is one of the greatest unsung heroes ever. After all, it played a bigger part in stopping the Germans in WWII than any other plane. And it shot down more and it served in more theatres than any other.

Concorde for obvious reasons, I'm suprised it's not been mentioned more here.

Harrier, again, obvious reasons.

Aircraft that deserve a mention are
Sopwith Camel,
Avro Lancaster,
E.E. Lightning,
Avro Arrow,
Douglas DC3,
Supermarine Spitfire,
Boeing 747
And the SR71.

I also go by aesthetics, since actual importance is incomparable.

Best looking aircraft of all time:
  • F4U-1A or F4U-1D Corsair
  • Ju-87 Stuka, all variants
  • Ki-61?  A6M? (Couldn't quite decide on the third.)

In My Humble Opinion :)

DeHaviland DHC-3 Otter for looks, all round best fighter and a great bomber!

Fighter...4 infantry snipers (two per side) with Lee Enfield 303s with scopes....awesome

Bomber...will hold at least two hundred glass pickle jars with grenades in them (pins pulled of course and when dropped...glass brakes...big boom)

Looks...now come on...really...the only thing that looks better than an Otter is another Otter...AND...They come on wheels, wheels/skis, skis, floats and amphibious floats.

I rest my case :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

If we're talking about flying bricks now, I vote for the B24.

I personally think the Stirling is rather a nice looking plane. It looks like it has a purpose.

Also, what about the Whitley? :o
