Keep an eye on Ebay also....I read a story about a guy's bike being stolen, and he hand made quite a few parts, about 2 weeks after the theft, he saw some of his parts, won the bid, and told the sellers that he cant afford shipping and handling, and that he would just drive by and pick em up,..... he called the po-po and they happily lived ever after, except the thieves.

That is totally grim!  >:(
I hope you find that stuff Kevin. I know how excited you have been recently using the telescope with your kid! I also know how expensive those items are. My eyepiece alone for my SLR camera to mount onto my scope was a small piece and was $150.00. Not to mention the adapters and optics. Keep a look out for it! I would defiantly contact the store and see if they have any video of the parking lot!
Best of luck!!

Well, the Wal-Mart people wouldn't let me look at their tapes.  I'm not holding out much hope about getting it back.  In fact, we have already decided to get a new one and have set a budget for $1500.00 for the scope itself.  I'm going to do the Six-Million Dollar Man thing.  "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.  We can make him better than before..."  I'm going to sit back and plan this one out, decide what I need, and get a proper package instead of building it piecemeal like I did before.  I'm thinking about a Meade 10 " Schmidt Cassegrain.  :)

I might be able too understand WalMart not allowing you too view the tapes, but what about the law? After all that is why they are there isn't it? And that is what the Law is for helping citizens isn't it?
I would be going to the Police Dept, and demanding action!!
You pay thier salaries and they work for you and the other taxpayers!!
I wish you the best of luck on your new set up!!
But don't give up on the recovery efforts of what was rightfully yours! If the Law tells you they can't do nothing about it, BULL! Get a lawyer, and get your stuff back!
Demand action and demand JUSTICE!!!!!!!
Don't let the jerks that did this to you win!!!!!!

That is why crime is so high!! Too many people back down and the Law lets it go!!!!! >:(

I was talking about me viewing the tapes.  I'm not sure what they're doing with the cops.  I'm sure somewhere in the course of the investigation, they'll check them out.  As for me, I'm not going to concentrate on the negative.  We are already planning the replacment for it, and if I get the old one back, then so much the better...

strange to hear that walmart are being of little help ::)
well if you do start again, and eventually get your other one back, that means you can either store one as a back-up, give it to a relative as a special gift, or sell it, and get back some of the money you lost in having to buy a second scope.

Unbelievable! I sometimes ask myself how thing have become this way. Who on earth steals that kind of parts? Somehow i can't see an astronomy enthousiast steal that kind of expensive stuff. So what does a tief gain by it? Ok he can sell it, but then you already have to know something about its wearth. Hope you'll be up and running with the replacement scope again in no time Pippin!

Reminds me of a problem my mother in law has. Some kids stole her moped a year ago. They snapped them, so they have to pay for the damage and replacementcosts for her stuff. But somehow those kids have there insurrance involved, and now my mother in law has to proove the wearth of the original stuff, not the prices of the replacements. Otherwise the insurance could refuse to pay. But how many people keep every ticket of every thing they own?

Where is this world going?

I think this is a typical of crime of opportunity. You might not believe this but there was a spate of car break-ins at our local crematorium. The thieves would hang around the car park & take anything they could lay their hands on from parked cars while the owners were mourning inside the chapel. How anyone can stoop so low is beyond my understanding. >:(

They don't want the stuff for themselves & will take anything providing they can sell it on as quickly as possible to fund their particular needs. They might not know what it is or what it's for but that's not important. If it looks expensive or they think they can sell it they will take it. Someone smashed the rear window of my brother's car just to take a pack of cigarettes from the parcel shelf. A credit card is one of the things they're looking for & the most useful to them. ::)

PS. I don't understand the attitude of the Wal-Mart in Pip's case. I think they have the responsibility to track down the thieves to prevent this happening again, even if they can't recover his goods. I would certainly complain bitterly & point this out to them.

theres a reason that supermarket car parks have those signs saying, cars parked at owners risk, and we cant take responsability for any damages or loss. The main reason for security cameras are to catch any info from a steal and run from the store. I would hope though that in cases like this that they would agree to allow someone to view the recordings.

That's a shame.  :-[ Hopefully you'll get it back...if they were stupid enough to take it, then they would be stupid enough to get caught
