I had heard about the "chemtrails". :(

I have also been frequently asked why planes spray that "stuff" when flying and had a "Gentleman" argue with me that it was an FAA regulation to increase visibility...I had a tough time with that. 15 Years working on tactical fighters vs a Liberal Arts BA.

Obviously I was misinformed and uneducated (Yes, he actually said that)!

I must say this surprises me. I've never met anyone remotely like that. The British public is possibly the most aviation-aware in the world & usually well-informed. Air displays have become so popular in this country they are now the second biggest spectator event after football, our national sport.

I actually had someone try to convince me that the chemtrails are water vapor!! ;D

Not to get too far off the subject but wasn't it somewhere in England that a woman was killed by a spear of frozen urine from an airliner.  Or was that just an urban legend?  I think I saw a picture of it somewhere.

Do people not realize that much like our car engines, aircraft engines have to have an exhaust too?

I found these photos that might be interesting. The first 3 were taken over St Paul's Cathedral in London in 1940.

This is a nice shot of B-17s in formation over Europe.

Finally, how it is now. I'm not really surprised about those rumours. ;)

it really is sad that some of these people believe planes only create temporary pencil thin trails.
As Dougs picture shows thats not the case.
i'll put some links up if anyones interested, kinda funny kinda sad.

There is some truth that contrails affect the weather during the day. I found this article while looking for those pics.

According to the report this was a new discovery in 2002. They should have asked me. I could have told them that from my own observations over 20 years earlier & for nothing. ::)

This was why I chose that particular photo. I thought it was an excellent shot. It also explains why it's sometimes difficult to tell how many engines an aircraft has from the contrail.

It just occurred to me that these conspiracy people are suggesting that this is some sort of white powder. In that case the answer is easy. If anyone suggests this theory to you ask them to explain why this powder remains at the same altitude, sometimes for hours. It might get spread by the wind but I've never seen it fall to the ground. ;)

from what i have read they think its a metalic substance, and now apparently it shows up as a haze on the ATC radar screens.
