Whaayyy

I just got a place in a local college as long as my GCSE's are good enough. I'm gonna be doing Psychology (already interested in it,) Economics, History (one of my favourites,) and Philosiphy.

I already confuse people with philisophical stuff but now this new bunch will help me do even better.

Congratulations Crumbso on getting accepted. A person on his way to psychology lived I'm my house once, quite interesting. Good luck on your GCSG.

I'm glad that I'm not alone on that one Orenda. Seems as there is no justice, doesn't it. But I figured that things like this has its consequences, its just a matter of when. After that they'll have to dig themselves out of whatever they're in.

In our school field trips we are responsible for getting there, I was going to take the bus, but I was offered a ride. Two of the people in it were the brightest in Calculus. On the way there they stopped to do drugs, they offered me but I turned it down. It was a very dangerous encounter. After that I really knew that I had to separate myself from my piers.

I also found out about the government legalizing marijuana. One of the drug users was talking all about it at lunch, its what they seem to be talking about all the time. It bothers me on how many people done it in class.

If they were doing drugs and driving, I would have gotten out of the car and walked the rest of the way.

What I find the most disturbing is the fact that today's youth are bombarded with drug abuse education, but they still do it anyway. I wanted to see exactly how big of a problem this is so I went to Stats Canada. Between 1997 and 2001, drug crimes have gone up 25% in all of Canada for all ages. For youths, drug charges have gone up 39% during the same time period.
I think it's said that our peers feel that they must pump themselves full of chemicals to have a good time.

They stopped the car, got out then did drugs. I was considering walking, it was a field trip to the ROM in Toronto. I was better off taking the bus and staying away from them.

As I mentioned how I yelled at a guy, he was one of the people in the car. He teases me because I refused to join them on that day. It takes up energy separating yourself from the crowd. Then it takes even more energy dealing with this nut. So one day, he slaps me with his neck tie when he goes up aisles in math, I just stood up and yelled at him. Just a strong yell, from the air in my gut through a strait neck. It happened in the early part of class, so when we were asked to leave, I left the room and the people in the hallway was still silent. I guess they heard.

It is sad, how many people done drugs despite several warnings. To me what is most hurting to see girls on drugs. Somedays I look across the library and say no not her, can

Hey wait a mo

Don't judge people JUSt because they take drugs. Its very hard growing up in todays youth. We don't have harsh economy problems but the liberty of choice is one that a teenager (still naive no matter how much bravado they cover it up with) will most likely want to rebel and because the boundries of our socioty are so wide we have to go further to push those boundries (told you i liked psychology.) Besides although one of my best friend seems to be constantly smoking weed and tobacco (I don't touch the stuff myself, I have a pretty strong peer pressure resiliance for my age which is 15) He is a really sincere and dependable bloke and I would trust him with my life, and hopefully vice versa.

Just because people take drugs does mean they are inherantly evil people it is in truth that the people who judge are the worse.

Crumbso is right, these kids are not evil, just severly confused. However this still does not excuse them from doing illegal activities and lureing other people into them.

Ranger, your school has a very big problem. My school is bad for drugs but everybody sort of does there own thing and nobody tries to get others to do drugs. I can say from personal experiance from what guys do to the girls. This isn't drug related but I know this girl that gets made fun of a lot. She's really nice and she's good looking but for some reason everybody (including her "boyfriends") treat her like crap. I feel really sorry for her as she's had a rough life (her mother died recently at a young age), but there's nothing I can do.

I was reading one of your previous posts Ranger, everyone I know is talking about university. I guess the rich kids think that because they have money, they don't need an education. BTW I'm pleased to announce that I got a conditional acceptence to the University of Toronto campus in Mississauga for social sciences.

Anyway, don't worry about the drug addicts. There problems will catch up to them. Money is no good if your in a rehab center. I just invision myself as owning a huge multi-national corporation and hireing these drug kids to scrub my toilets.

Ok, well perhaps I had been too harsh. I grew up in a very ethnic school for most of my life so far. When I entered the school it had a population of 50, and it was mostly composed of hard working highly disciplined students. The average family didn't even own a television set. The school only offered an education up to grade 10...by the time I left the school the population increased to 70. There was a student limitation, so they cant offer any more grade levels. So, I spent the second half of high school in my current one. It was only this year that I notched such a transition. I was surrounded by ethic hard working students and now everyone seems so immoral and less persevering. I suppose it was a steep transition with a vigorous reaction. I never met anybody with such a reckless life style and they are the people that I see day to day.

So, I keep my boundaries intact. The problem is that some people try to break those boundaries, I just segregated myself from the rest.

Other times I try to put myself in my classmates shoes. I suppose it is difficult to resist such temptations. Going by so much trouble to avoid this, there must be some reward in the end. I dont really mean a reward from myself, anybody who tries to take the same path.

I never realized the things that go on in our society. I think that these things didn't really exist a few centuries ago. Its probably was promoted by the coming of technology and stress in society. Has anybody read the book "Brave New World"? It was a book written in the 1930s and vision a world 500 years down the road. It was a world where the entire population works, its just what job you work in. The level of stress is maintained through sex on a regular basis and the frequent use of a drug called "soma", a drug that put balance when the mind is unstable. Later in the book, one of the characters die from an overdose.

The question is this. Is our society being steered in the wrong direction? There has been many changes in the past hundred years. I'm just going to leave us with that question. I'm not going to really push around any opinions. Past this point this can expode into a large post.

I also feel uncomfortable, because I might promote bad ideas.

Orenda, congratulations. You

You know, I haven't really been able to read everthing here, because I am on a time crunch. . . But anyways, to the point.

There are many reasons why a child may take drugs.
  • Family issues
  • Peer Pressure
  • Death
  • Depression
  • Disability
  • School
  • To be "cool"
  • Many, many more reasons

These kids are not dumb, not stupid, not crazy. They are in need of help. If you see a kid on the side of the road, homeless, what do you automatically think? Druggy? Alcoholic? Ever considered family issues? Some of these kids go out on the street because of abusive situations at home. They go buy drugs and take drugs trying to forget the "old life." These kids don't always need a home, they don't need always to go to jail for possetion, they need help. Not punishment. Rewards for doing good almost always works better than punishment.

Do you honestly think that all of these kids want to use drugs? Yes? Well, in that case, do you think they want to use drugs to forget about lifes' problems? Didnt think so. I  have worked with kids for a while, and have come to understand the way a teenager thinks and why he or she thinks that way. Its pretty simple when you come right down to it. They want attention, sometimes flashing lasers in sombody's eyes or using drugs is the only way the kid knows how.

I have read this page and I want to commend both Ranger and Orenda. Today's youth have many pressures. I can remember when I was in high school in the 80's and drugs and alcohol were the "in" thing to do. Girlfreinds, alcohol, drugs, fitting in.....ect.... I saw many of my freinds collapse to peer pressure. Just from reading your posts to one another I am impressed on how "mature" the both of you are compared to the "other problem kids" you are describing.
It is a hard time to get through but believe me.....years from now you will look back and be "proud" of yourself for making the right decisions. After high school, alot of the pressures you have now be gone. I am 35 years old and can remember my high school years and pressures as if they were yesterday and it is funny..........I can say "Thank god" I didn't do that because it does matter. You both will go on to become who you want, maybe get married, get yor own place, maybe raise a family.......

I agree with people like Brad but making excuses does not solve the problem. We need manditory rehab programs for these kids so they get the help they need.

It's culturally related too. I was watching the Man Show the other day, the one where they visit Snoop Dog's mansion. He openly displays drugs across his house. What's that teaching kids?! Today's culture (perticularly ghetto culture) glorifies the use of drugs and violence. What pisses me off is that these problems keep getting swept under the carpet. If we don't do something about it now, who knows how big the problem could balloon into in the next 10 to 20 years. I do think the kids who do drugs are dumb, being told no to take drugs so many times and still doing it. Here's an example of what it does to you. I saw a drug kid in my grade (12) going down the hall singing "Birds Suddenly Appear" and other songs from the Simpsons, very off key I might add.  ;D I guess I'm getting too cynical now, aren't I.

After more thinking, some people are victims of themselves or victims of others. For reasons of breaking under stress and pressure, you cant be angry at them. I guess the real thing to be angry is at drugs itself, just for existing.

I feel compelled to think so much effort will sum up to something . I guess Fly2e said something neat, but no need for the fancy stuff like the car collection or stables ran by the troubled kid. At the same time, I suppose that we learn something from our bad experiences. Like if I ever have a kid of my own, I can better understand what he can go through, and help him through it.

Well, I guess I understand some of my class mates, I don

Don't you guys remember what its like to be a teenager? These days because of freedom and these bloody relaxed sentences for everything. Smoking weed these days is like smoking tabacco its not that serious to alot of people. Shoving us into rehab will not help one bit. Many people who smoke weed don't even have a problem and stopped it years ago. As I said before I don't touch the stuff but I have and used to smoke a reasonable amount. If you ask me tabacco is much more dangorous because if you don't have some after being addicted you get jumpy and very edgy. I am fine now I'm getting A's and B's in my reports and am going to do well in my exams. You can't say what we need until you know what exactly it is that we do and feel. I agree with you on things like pills and heroine but otherwise. And some guys treat girls like shit drugs or no. It is sad but you can't blame it all on drugs. If your gonna ban any of em ban one of the most dangorous alcahol (please don't I love it) Unless you have tried you don't know. One puff doesn't immediatly fuck your life up. If you don't want fine be you're own person but please don't bug us. I may get banned or something but your badmouthing some of my most trusted and dearest friends of mine.
