Pronounced; Loo-iss in the USA.

It's not consistant over here. The place name is most often pronounced Loo-ee.
The same pronunciation is used by someone of French descent and others with that spelling who prefer it so. Lewis is strictly the Anglisized version and always pronounced Loo-iss.

Metres is apt to be pronounced mett-ress or mett-rayz -- especially by those that don't know how to spell and confuse it with mattress.
Is a metre for an electric bed?

Metre/Meter: Both pronounced the same, but with different meanings and applications.

Metre: The size of an electric bed measured in Metres. (Length, Width, and thickness of the Mattress).
Metre: The height above the ground of the electric bed measured in Metres ATG (Above The Ground).
Meter: The Voltage and Current* drawn by an electric bed, measured with a Voltmeter and Ammeter.

Feet: At the end of each leg, (often contained within a pair of Socks, in the case of Homo sapiens),
and the height of the creature.
