I know what it is too. I'm in my 70s but never owned or used one.

OK, I'll let everybody in on it.

That is a turnip (neep).

The metal tip lets you spin it as you peel it. Therefore the name: TURN-ip

The turnip with the tip on it was often tossed. Usually at a little brother or sister. :D

That was the origin of the phrase "Turnip! You're it!

I got 15 out of 15. DANG!! I still remember my Mom's wringer washing machine and how it used to "dance" across the basement floor with a heavy load.
And yes I do know what the object in OAM's picture is though mine was a slightly newer version made out of plastic.

If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.

But I guessed on the washing machine and icebox, having never seen either of them before.

In the late 70's I worked for a company that did a lot of international business. We used the telex often.

I remember those washing machines. Ours was a Viking.
Strangely there is an identical one at the families summer
cabin in Tullameen BC.

Memories.

Those things were for rich kids!

When I was a kid we had to use turnips and our pajama strings.

That's why we had to put the tip of a nail in the turnip.

Otherwise that turnip don't spin to much. Gets mushy, ya know.

15/15, and that pictured is no good without a string :) used to see who could knock over the most wooden shaped milk bottles in a square area.
