Has it occured to anyone that maybe all of the Biblicle references might just be PR? These guys were politicians after all. I'm not actually making that claim as I have no evidence, it's just a thought.

That's an intresting point. But is it fair reasoning to say that how politicians 'do business' nowadays inasfar as their methods and morals might have differed back then? After all we have come a long way in what is acceptable behavior in society.

That's possible but this was the 18th Century when religion was taken very seriously & played a big part in most people's lives. I don't know as much about this as you Americans should but presumably at least some of the Founding Fathers were from families that had come to the New World to escape religious persecution. This would surely mean that they felt very strongly about their own religious beliefs, whatever they might have been. From the little I've discovered on this subject since this discussion started there seem to be so many complex theories about what they meant when drawing up the Constitution that the simple truth is obscured.
