Your Firearms?

I must admit i have thought about getting a license to keep one here, after my uncles car was stole from his driveway and things were stolen from his backyard recently. Brand new car now destroyed.

I'm not sure that's a good idea Craig, especially in the current situation. If you're seen carrying what even looks like a firearm in the street you're asking for it.

Except for legitimate reasons (like pest control or target shooting) personal firearms are illegal in the UK. Carrying a concealed weapon is also a serious offence. This will soon also apply to replica firearms. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4071848.stm

I would certainly not carry one arround with me. Not only is that stupid in the first place, but its not being out in public that worries me.

In most places in the US, its illegal to carry a concealed weapons without a permit.  But in some states you can "open carry" (carry a gun in public if it is visible).  For example, you can have a pistol in a holster on your hip as long as its visible-thats legal in Oregon.

Still, nothing I'm interested in doing.

Good thing I live in Texas.  The law's pretty relaxed here.  And people here (for the most part) know how to use a firearm.  Like not shooting it in the air like those Louisianians!  :o

Fifth, those with military training and war experience like me would find it easy.

Ok, I haven't been to war, but even with military training I think a burglar would be clever enough to realise that I wouldn't be stupid enough to shoot him, as I know i'd probably be up for attempted murder, ABH, or worse manslaughter or murder if I did shoot him, my career would probably be in ruins (temporarily at least)...

Over here you can't even defend yourself in the military (at war). Several people who killed people (legitamately) in Iraq have been shipped straight back so the lawyers can then decide whether they murdered the person or not. What is worse are the UK lawyers who try to get our own servicemen convicted by appealing to ex-pat Iraqi families to press charges...
