This news article has opened up a lot of debate on the net. What do you think? Should he fly, should he pay for two seats? Personally, I think he presents a safety hazard. He would never get out of an over-wing exit.

I agree he's a safety hazard. He wouldn't get through the main door of some aircraft. How do they manage to get the trollies past him?

This is the unfortunate reality he faces when buying clothes: if the only thing available in your size is a tent... wear what you find or make your own (I lost 50# of fat and about a foot in waistline -- yep, quite a kick -- in early 2003). If he must book his flight on a C5... or, possibly, there's room in the baggae hold...

Being that size is undoubtedly problematic in all modes of transport - including a personal vehicle.

Arhg! The armrest does not appear to be up. Safetywise, I can't envision the seatbelt extending that far and if it could be, he may snap it in a crash situation. And possibly be projected forward into other passengers. Our full body fall arrest harnesses we use at work are only rated for 5000 pounds of force, likely more heavy duty than those belts. A 260 pound person will exert several 1000 pounds of force on a harness after a fall of 6 or 7 feet. ( The lanyards are 6 feet long. ) So that alone makes this a safety issue of concern.
Large people should be up in the front seat by the bulkheads and should not be boarding booked flights when there are no seating choices.
Now on the other hand, sitting next to him might be a better choice than sitting next to an untamed 4 year old brat.   :)

In either case, arriving at the impact point after them is somewhat better (as to self) than arriving immediately before. '

At times I am a fan of the 'pay per kilo' method. I am a light person so I think my weight should be taken into account when my luggage is being weighed. If you are very big then I think you should pay more... It is exactly the same as if you had more luggage.

By the way, if the limit was, for example, 20kg per person for luggage and I had 10kg of luggage and a friend had 30kg of luggage, would they charge extra seeing as in total the weights balance out at the maximum of 40kg?



But yes, I think they pose some what of a health risk and it may cause difficulty moving the trolley. Poor passenger beside him, too.

All joking aside, it is a problem, for the passenger and the airline. I fit in the seat, but barely. Add to that, I am a little over 6'3". The only time I was ever really comfortable, was on a Northwest flight at the rear with an empty space (no seat beside an emergency exit) in front of me where I could actually stretch my legs. And the seat next to me was unoccupied so I could raise the center armrest. I still prefer to drive to my destination.

Yes, add;

A Super fat gut bucket who feigns offence and thinks that his waistline is because he has a "gland problem", but $50,000000 will make him feel a lot better.............and push up the share prices at McD's and KFC.

The PC brigade who will say it is society's fault because he was misunderstood as a child.

A doctor or two who will find that he has Asperger's, or bipolar disorder or some other trendy defence argument for every problem that the down trodden have.

A hand full of celeb lawyers ready to represent him, no win, no fee of course, but a serious pay day if they do win and then maybe that TV legal consultation position on Fox News that they have always wanted.

A very misguided jury will find that he was publicly humiliated and that he should have every cent of is $50,000000 even though it is not possible to identify him in the picture and he identified himself to the news after the picture was published. They will also indite his childhood doctor and
