My mom and grandmother (when she was alive) liked to poke fun at the way all the "Kids" and "Grandkids" (meaning me and my siblings) fuss about prices and the way the world is.

My grandmother lived through the great depression and the dust bowl of the 1930's. She use to laugh at the way kids would complain about their lack of "luxury items".

My mom said a great Christmas was getting an apple and some walnuts. One Christmas she thought that she'd died and gone to Heaven when she got a candied apple and some marshmellows.

My uncle told me how he worked all day to earn 5 cents and spent 2 cents to by a bag of licorice for 7 brothers and sisters to have a treat and gave the remaining 3 cent to my grandmother for bread. He was 8 years old at the time.

Be thankful for what you have and the times you live in. It can get worse....

 Yup. I was told similar depression-era stories from my grandfather on my mom's side. It makes you think, or at least it should.

It was -- the SECOND Great Depression was when my cousin jumped out the back window of the barn and left a depression in the manure pile. It just didn't remain such a sad memory for other than my cousin.

Social Security and Disability- back then you worked until you dropped dead. There really wasn't a "retirement", at least not by today's standards.

Yeah.... it sounds good "on paper" ,........ but the USA is already basically bankrupt..... we owe the rest of the world so much money that there is not enoough in the Treasurey to go around.  So those supposed "guarantee funds" really have no actuall money behind them.
