;D Oh I get it ,I though It was you were just making fun of the astronomy post ,not the theory involved , Yeah indeed its absurd.. 8-)

Hey its doesn't mean that can be planets with the same earth conditions around the nearest stars, even with Biological or a diferent type of life in it..

They can't even know the size, the mass of it  ,some of its composition perhaps, you have any idea what's 20 light yeas away? :o its too far

They can find out a heck of a lot about it Hagar!!

How do you figure they can't find out its size, i thought you were a physics man Alrot :-?

They can estimate a size ,but not exacly , see ,By the spining of a planet around a star the move forced by its sun  both gravitation will make a tiny pull in this star, and a

they would have no interest in our pathetic little planet.

From a strictly scientific standpoint, finding a planet that seems to fit many of the criteria required for conditions similar to what we have here is very interesting simply because in our observation so far, it's extremely rare.  So far, it really seems that life as we know it depends greatly on a delicate balance of factors.
Our little Earth-Moon system is unique in the known universe... which although very limited, is known to contain plenty of gas giants and scorched or frozen rocks, much like we find here in our local system.

A little speculation in such an article doesn't bother me- it's hard to capture public interest with raw science, so a little titillation is in order.

But sadly, even if some form of life is ever discovered elsewhere, unless it walks upright and waves hello, the masses will quickly lose interest...  ::)

I have no doubt that there is some form of life elsewhere in the Universe. It stands to reason that in such a vast expanse the Human race is not unique. However, I suspect that even if alien creatures were in a position to observe us, they would have no interest in our pathetic little planet.

PS. That's my theory & I'm sticking to it. Prove me wrong if you can. :P

I think if there are extraterrestrial scientists scanning the night sky, they'd be quite interested in our world... there may be an abundance of "Earth-like" worlds in the universe, but one is lucky to find one, with the means available here on Earth, anyway.
The idea that they would bother studying the heavens yet not be curious about possible life on other worlds seems pretty far-fetched to me. Even prehistoric people speculated that there was "somebody out there".... usually gods or spirits of the dead, but it's not like they looked up and thought "huh, pretty lights. big deal..." ;D

But I agree with Alrot- they'd probably be pretty disappointed in us in general- at least I hope they would be. But not contemptuous, necessarily... that could be a problem. ;D
