Man commits suicide on webcam

Postby Wing Nut » Sat Mar 24, 2007 8:25 am

Chatroom users 'egged on father to kill himself live on webcam'

Very sad...  Maybe we should all think about adopting the rule that we don't say anything to others on the web that we wouldn't say in the real world.

I wonder after the chatroom hosts have to hand over the records of what was said, if a few people could then have a charge of helping in the death of someone hanging over them or even manslaughter. The internet is not as anonymous as people would like to think.

Last night it emerged that Mr Whitrick had been suffering from depression after being badly injured in a car crash last year.

Friends said that the breakdown of his marriage with wife, Paula - with whom he had 12-year-old twins - and the recent death of his father had also been causing him some distress.

He was logged on with around 50 other users to a special "insult" chatroom where people "have a go at each other".

Well, from an outside perspective, if your suffering from depression, then an 'insult' chatroom isn't really the place to be. I don't think the other users can be blamed for egging him on, firstly, no-one thought he was serious, & secondly, er, it was an 'insult' chatroom - not the Samaritans, which is who he should've been talking to.

I've got no sympathy for idiots who feel the need to kill themselves publicly & scar other people, nor the ones who risk other peoples lives whilst trying to end their own.

I think there are enough attentionwhores who'd go that far.

Plus, you could flame at all those ridiculous suicide attempts of emo kiddies. ;D

Those idiots who encouraged that man to kill himself, as he was preparing to do so and went through with it, should get arrested and be given a public beating with a nice little tool that we have come to know as "the wip". >:(

If none of those idiots get arrested, they'll still have to live the rest of their lives with the hard fact that they were the ones who took part in his suicide. >:(

Oh come on.

He was depressive and he joined a chatroom which was all about insulting other people just to give him the final push.

You can't blame the guys in there for anything. They probably didn't even know if he was serious about it or not.

If this guy thought his decision was right, fine. I can understand him. A car accident, a divorce and the death of his father must've given him a hard time and why should you continue suffering for much longer after having gone through all this?

He had 12 year-old twins. How do you think they feel about it?

Plenty of people have suffered far worse & never contemplated suicide.
