Sure the internet as we know it has had it's best days. There will be other systems or multiple internets. But who said they won't be connected? Big companies can't do without a worldwide system, most internetsites rely on that same worldwide system. A webmaster who designed and maintains a site can have his servers on the other end of the world. Sounds familiar? So ok, China might have it's country restricted internet but this will never happen in "the free world". To much opposition for that. Google is trying to create it's own internet but you probably have to pay for that to get access. And who wants to pay more for the same thing? So as long as this "old" system is still working despite it's porn, pop-up's, spam and whatever else there might be, I'm not to worried.

A petition against it, ON THE INTERNET, would work! You can imagine how many people would sign that, the irony being, by means in which they want to get rid of! Perhaps base it in China?

I didn't read it all, but from what I understand this person is portraying powerful views.

However, I doubt that the internet will end. Too many people are using it for it to end - if it did stop, imagine the uproar by people.
Many people use the internet for "recreational use".
Some people may need the internet (interent shopping - disabled people may internet shop for their grocieries every so often )
So many people, around the world, find the internet a useful tool. There are so many reasons why they find it a useful tool - if it did come to an end, like I mentioned above, there would be an uproar. People would not be happy and would proabably campaign for it to return.

(I could go on a lot longer but I'm pretty tired right now....just woken up )

i've become very internet relying. i pretty much need it for everything. to see the net go down like that would be disasterous. this is all corporate doing, and it will backfire.... i could so see it.

this would put us in a position of the rest of the world hating us becuase our US companies decided to control the world information source. i cant imagine any country that would stand for it. i'm against it.

Who cares.  The internet is still here, we're all still chatting merrily away, and I'm still sitting here in the office, typing away like a good little chipmunk.

But wouldn't it be terrible, if we all had to pay actual money to get on a net, play a game and talk to people in the house across the street and across the planet, and kill them?  But wait!  It doesn't have to be that way, because . . .


Its already like that.  We are all paying for the internet in some form or fashion, unless you have somehow tapped into a free hookup.  I just don't see what dang difference it could possibly make.  After all, if this net is still running, I won't have any problems, just like I don't have any problems getting good FS aircraft right now, while many developers are going payware.  I just won't have access to some of the high-level stuff, but I don't really want to be there, anyway.  Those sites may be great, and there may be some amazing VR stuff, with lights, sound (and refreshments!), but in the end, all I need is someone on the other end sharing files with me.
