Where Were You On 9/11/2001

Postby Pc-Shark » Sun Sep 11, 2005 1:23 am

The 4 year anniversary of the worst day in American history. I honestly cannot believe it's already been 4 Years, it still seems like only yesterday. I was just wondering if you could share some of your stories of what you were doing on that tragic day, as I'm sure all of you remember. I know I can..

I was 14, in the 9th grade but I had Dr. Appointment that day. So I was at home watching tv, then the emergency Broadcast System screen came on on for just a sec followed by the Special News report which hit ever tv station in the nation then soon after world wide. At first I just thought it was just a hurricane announcement or something like that. Then I realised what was going on. The scariest part was my father was in the military at the time & was on a buisness trip in Maine and was to be returning that evening. You could not even imagin what was going through my head at that moment.

I was actually sleeping (I work a night shift) and rarely watch any TV away from the workplace. I didn't find out until I got to work.

My only real memories of that day before i saw the news reports is that it was my first week at secondary school, a tuesday and I had maths that day. i can remember a teacher coming in and whispering to our teacher "did you hear what happened?".
When I got home I was watching it on the news and ranting down the phone to my friend about how bad it was.

I was at school. My uncle let me know about the attacks on the way home. I didn't ofcourse know what buildings had been struck and where. All I knew is a plane had crashed into a building. I thought it was an accident or something.

It was only when I got home that I discovered that the attacks were in New York and inflicted upon the Twin Towers (sad, because the loss of life and 3 years previous I had been up in one of the towers). I watched coverage for the whole evening and night. It was such a terrible day :(

sitting in my then girlfriends living room watching the news, then they had the first pictures of the first tower on fire, and a couple of minutes later the next was hit. bit worrying being in the united states at that time, but also amazing to see how it brought everyone closer at the same time.

Sat in my comfy chair, early in the morning, eating my cornflakes and drinking my tea, when my Sister rang me from London to switch the 'Tele on....
...Flippin' 'eck...!
..just in time to see the second plane to hit the Towers.

After the whole lot had crashed to the ground, I remember thinking to myself, "This has got the be the biggest disaster of the 21st Century, so far"...!

I still can't get over the futile stupidity of it all...!
A lot of people died for no good reason...!

Something which is burnt into my memory...!

Cheers all...!

I had just got to school for anothr day of classes, and as I was there early I was sitting in my car surfing the radio stations for interesting music or news when I heard the radio dj pop on the air and in a laughingly manner say that the first plane had hit the tower. I kind of laughed because he made it out to be something like a small aircraft and no big deal, I remember going into school for my first class with a picture of a C172 with it's tail hanging out of the building.....

SO fast forward 30 minutes or so and I'm sitting in my first class and the professor comes in white as a sheet and begins to fill us in on how the second plane had just hit. She gave us some reading assignments and told us to go down the hall to the faculty lounge and watch the news or go home. Well I sat there watching the news for another hour and a half because no one from the school had told us school was cancelled and I had a test in my next class that day. We get into our math class and the professor is nice enough to turn the tv in the room on to CNN and said she was going to give us the test anyway. Well about 2 minutes later someone from the university came around and told us all to go home, no more classes for the day.

So after waiting a little bit for traffic to die down I went home and watched some news, then popped on over to work at 2pm when I was supposed to work that day to find out that the place was empty! They had sent everyone home and called those who were still coming later in the day and told them to stay home. Somehow I always miss the memos on things like that....  ???

I remember laying awake most of the night just listening to WNIR 100.1FM from Up by the school talk radio station,  and listening to callers calling in about family they had lost or had not found yet, and all kinds of worrying stuff.....

So there's my story, nothing special, just an ordinary day turned unforgetable.....

I was in boarding school...having just gotten up. I walked into the common room...and turned on the TV. Coincedentally, someone had left the TV on the news channel. As I watched...the first tower was up in flames. Then the second aircraft hit the tower. I remember being transfixed at my chair...it took a while to get back to my senses. I thought to myself...no, It couldn't be...but the horrible truth sunk in like a sinking ship...and there was nothing I could do about it :'( :'(

Sat in my comfy chair, early in the morning

It would have been later than that in the UK Paul. I heard the first report in a news flash while working at my PC listening to "Steve Wright in the Afternoon" on BBC Radio 2. That starts at 2.00 pm so it would have been a few minutes later. (According to CNN the first tower was hit at 8.45 am EDT or 1.45 pm BST.) At first it seemed that a small private aircraft or helicopter had collided with one of the towers by accident. Bad enough but it didn't seem too serious. I switched on the TV to see what was going on. Nothing prepared me for what I saw in the next few minutes. At first it didn't sink in & like watching a disaster movie. I've seen plenty of those before but it suddenly hit me that this was real life & happening right now. It affected me deeply as I have happy memories of NYC & I'd been up one of those towers on my last visit.

I was actually just about to get in the shower when my wife called me to say that SKY News had interupted their programme to cut live to NY about 15 minutes before the second plane hit.
I spent the rest of the day in front of the TV ...... the shower was forgotten along with most other things that day.

For myself...I was weed-wacking at a Casino here.  I came inside for a bread and a fellow employee asked me if I had heard what happened.  When I said "no" she didn't believe me at first.

The thing was, all TV reception was lost soon after.  We began to think that communication lines had been destroyed in an attack.  It turned out that the cable company had chosen that day to work on a relay station.  We drove by and the technician yelled (Even before we got out of the car to tell him we were down) "I know! I know!"

I was 11 years old, in 6th grade. Being homeschooled, I can choose to sleep late if I want to, but it just means I will be working later. Well, back then, I thought it was worth it to sleep late and get my work done later. So, I was in bed, sleeping, when my mom came in and woke me up. She told me that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. At first, being half asleep, it didn't hit me the magnitude of this thing. I thought it was a bummer, but didn't quite realize just HOW bad it was.

Well then I got up and went into the living room. And at this point the second plane had just crashed into the WTC. It was then that I realised that this was no ordinary event.

Obviously then, my mom didn't make me do any school that day. And I just remember sitting in front of the T.V. . And then I remember going to my grandparents house in late morning. And I can remember my grandpa sitting there crying. That was hard for me.

Then I just remember pretty much watching T.V. the rest of the day.

I truley tragic event... :(
