Airline food poll (sort of)

OK Imagine you are on an airliner, and they don't have the food you requested (but they have the other types). Which one would you take

I mean if for example you ordered continental food and they only got asian and kosher, what would you take

I have found on numerous flights, you get a choice of either chicken or pasta, beef or pasta, pasta or fish, beef or fish.
If you want any of these vegitarian, health or religious meals then you have to order when booking your flight because they are put on specifically and cant just be asked for on the plane.
I will tend to eat a large meal before the flight and right after to avoid having to eat onboard.

Depends what mood I was in. I can eat anything when I'm hungry and as I like most things I don't really mind. I do have a weakness to curry though - but most curries today are as mild and flavourless as anything now. My Dad used to make wonderful ones - now jars of the throw in stuff are so cheap it is easier for him to use that. Never beats the home-done recipes.
When I'm travelling though I tend to snack rather than have meals.

Airline food is hardly gourmet quality but in my experience it's generally not as bad as it's made out to be. maybe I'm not as fussy as some people. I don't take the flight for the food & would pack sandwiches if necessary. That might become more popular the way things are going.  

As Craig says, you usually get a choice of two main dishes so if they run out of one you either have the other option or go hungry.

I'm with Doug...you don't fly for the food, you fly so you can get from one place to another...and if you don't like the food...I'm sure you can find SOMETHING at home to bring along...

#2 - Aren't "airlines" and "food" mutually exclusive terms?

You could never get away with removing meals from international flights, let alone charging for them. I do think a good idea would be to have an optional 3rd choice which you can pay for before the flight, the meal would be of a higher quality if you choose to not pay for that you get the standard, bouncy steak or soggy fish. Although the food on USair wasn't too bad.
I know alot of the US domestic flights now have food by actual restaurants which you can buy, but its rather expensive. I dont think they have free meals on domestic anymore. maybe the east to west and back routes.

Why not? Freddie Laker did it back in 1977. He would still be doing it now if it hadn't been for the major airlines (including BA) using illegal means to force him out of business.

Ok you could never get away with it on the "majors".
BA, Virgin, American, Delta(who now stop for fuel on long europe routes ) and so on. Maybe these package or low fare airlines, but the main reason most people book with the bigger companies for the long haul is because of the service, costs more but you get a little more. Not much but some. As for Mr Laker, we've had that discussion before, would he still be going today? perhaps, but if he couldn't get through a couple of less than ethical airline bosses, would he have lasted todays rubbish. And remember todays flying public seem to expect more and more for less. Unless you fly easyjet or Ryanair, where its considered a bonus if you dont get asked to push the plane to the runway

The way things are going even the major airlines might be forced to change their ideas to keep prices down. Otherwise nobody except the wealthy customers will be able to afford to fly. This would be exactly the same situation as Concorde & look what happened to that.

While i wouldn't be heart broken if some people were too poor to fly. Mr torn jeans and t-shirt with his sweaty wife and screaming kids. Obviously i dont want to see prices sky rocket anymore than the next. The sad fact is, its at the very top airlines need to make cuts and firings, the guys who sit behind the desk for $1million a year who have 5 assistants all with no airline knowledge earning 100K a year. Not the Pilots or the Flight attendants or the Mechanics. Right now bigger airlines cant afford to keep prices down, and its poor planning and forward thinking thats screwed them completely.  Thats why easyjet ryanair, and Southwest in the US are rolling on good times.

I know that, you know that, everyone knows it but the people at the top & they make the rules. It's the same in almost every big business you can think of, including the nationalised ones.
