Apparently an electrical fire has left the boat dead in the water.  Pity too, it had just been sold to the Canadians by the RN ... I wonder if it's still under warranty?

Haven't heard this on the news. Our military is so cheap they bought a bunch of second hand British Subs. This one in perticular has had numerous problems. It had originally returned to the UK because it was leaking and needed to be fixed.

no, rubber ducks are amusing and also float, nothing the MOD comes up with seems to have either quality

back to the topic, the RAF sent a nimrod out to keep watch, and the navy are sending out rescue crews, at the request of the sub crew

btw, how do u diferenciate a canadian sailor from a ship from a sailor serving on a nuke sub?

because the sub sailor glows in the dark

There's nothing wrong with the Upholder class Subs...they're the best SS's in the world. It's just that "pier rash" has set in.

The problem is the unwarranted delay in accepting the deal offered by England...these boats were available almost a decade ago. If they had been accepted then they wouldn't have sat around for 10 years...they would be new and in good shape.

Defence just isn't taken seriously in Canada...

Me thinks they were better off with buying our new Type 212. First, we need the money and second the new 212 class is the most modern non-nuclear sub of the world.

Perhaps it is time we started to buy Made in Canada, especially for our military.
We need to stop depending on foreign countries to supply our needs.
A.V.ROE CANADA was a prime example, it was definitley not the lack of money that stopped the project but the lack of political guts!
