Dream Air Force

This is just a hypothetical kind of thing, obviously...  Do include why you chose what you did.  Only one aircraft for each type, air superiority fighter, attack, bomber.  Anything that was supposed to take to the air air from 1903-present is valid. ;)

All my choices stem from pure looks, would be mighty good for airshows, but maybe not for war... ::) Oh well, who needs to attack anybody when you got a schweet lookin' air force anyway?  All aircraft would have bare metal, black anti-glare on nose, flag (Third Reich) on rudder and the late war cross (hollow) for roundels.  Schweetness. ;D

My choice for an mid-thirties air force:

Fighter: Mitsubishi A5M  - long range and maneouverability

Attack:  Curtss F11C - Any of the Helldivers were good point attack planes - what do you think gave the idea for the Stuka.

Bomber: Ju86 - For the mid-thirties, a well rounded modern plane.  Just edged out my preference for the HP Hampden, which I consider a "late" 30s.

For a modern air arm:

Fighter: F-22  (or the Typhoon ... )

Attack:  F-35 (JSF)   (on its potential)

Bomber:  F/A-18E    (not as modern as the F-22, but otherwise the Hornet is as close to the "jack of all trades" that the Phantom II was)

For a WW1 air arm:

Fighter:  Sopwith Snipe  (or Fokker D.VIII)

Attack:    Junkers CL-1
Bomber:  HP 0/100   (IMHO a better mount than the Zeppelin-Staacken behemoths)

You could've just combined them...  Mighty interesting. ;D

Although I would imagine a Fokker might have trouble escorting a Stratofortress... :o

For my Modern (1959-present) I'd pick....

Fighter: Grumman F-14 Tomcat - One of the fastest in the USAF, well armed. Carrier capability.

Attack: Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow- Fast all weather nuclear interceptor with a decent load of guided missiles.

Bomber: B-52 Stratofortess- The big boy of the skys, huge loadout. Capable of carring a decent sized nuclear payload if needed.

For past (1903-1958 )...

Fighter: Hawker Sea Fury- best all time piston fighter.

Attack: Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck- maybe not the best but it has all weather capability meaning that it can go almost anywhere. Well rounded early interceptor.

Bomber: Avro Lancaster- I think we all know what made this great.

Being patriotic I would choose:

Fighter - Hawker Hunter. Best looking jet fighter ever produced.

Attack - Blackburn Buccaneer - nothing to touch it, even today.

Bomber - Avro Vulcan. No contest.

Not sure I fancy any of these in bare metal though. ::)

For me, I would say...

Fighter: F-22
Attack: A-1 Skyraider
Helocopter Gunship: UH-1B Huey (kind of an Army thing, but thats OK)
Bomber: B-17G Flying Fortress (G-1 variant, no Cheyenne tailgun-looks bad)
Stragetic Transport/Cargo: Hughes H-4 Hercules (aka the "Spruce Goose")

Fighter: EE Lightning.
Attack: Blackburn Buccaneer.
Bomber: Vulcan.
