Morbid fascination with "guns" again.

Crazy.

I think to myself they should be outside playing football and climbing trees with their school chums.

I am a gun owner, or more accuratelyt, a rifle owner, just a .22 long rifle. I keep it hidden. It's for use only INSIDE my house, in the unlikely, I hope, event of a home invasion. It never goes outside. The plan is to never use it outside. Just stay inside and call the cops. If you own a gun, you need to have a plan of when and where to use it.

Now that I have impact windows, no real need for it anymore. But I'll keep it anyway.

So whereas I'm not exactly an anti-gun person, I must say, yep, this really is crazy.

I can't imagine these kids thinking anything else but seeing this as a game. If, sooner or later, because the parents are into guns, the kids will also want to learn, maybe at a later age if it's inevitable, but I do believe there's such a thing as too young. As we can see here.

Teach 'em to swim before they can walk, teach 'em to fly before they can drive, but exposure to guns at a very young age is brainwashing. Can they really understand the concept of gun safety and protocol? I really gotta wonder.

And then there's this:

"Georgia law allows fully automatic rifles in the state as long as they were obtained before 1986."

Another crazy inconsistency in laws that confuse the balance between gun control and no gun control. An automatic rifle is an automatic rifle, regardless of when it was purchased.

So we've got these kids firing off fully auto M-16's, it looks like. Just what the NRA loves to see.

I enjoy shooting, and do own guns. However I'd never let a 9 year old girl loose with an Uzi! This is just insane. I agree with teaching children how to shoot, in a safe and controlled environment, and when my two are old enough, I will teach them proper safety and weapons handling if they wish.
What kind of moron gives a sub-machine gun with full-automatic capability to a child barely strong enough to lift it? This girl must be going through the most awful trauma because of this right now. I really feel that it isn't just the poor instructor's family and friends but this poor lassie who'll have to deal with this for the rest of her life.
Alas common sense appears to now be rarer than rocking horse poo....

My take on this is that the firearms trainer "thought" that he had things in hand. And of course, it would have been far better if it had stayed in his hand.

As to the parents - parents in general can be total idiots, no mater what the subject.

Heatstroke Deaths of Children in Vehicles - the short story: "Total number of U.S. heatstroke deaths of children left in cars, 1998-present: 629"

That number is only for the US.

And that does not even take into account the far larger number of kids under 18 that are killed in/by cars.

We could, and perhaps should, ban cars?

Here in the US we have two extremist groups, one group who wants to ban any, and all, guns in any form, and another fighting for the right to prevent that.

It's a feed back system where the more that one side pushes, the harder the other side pushes back. Round and round.

A long time ago (in the 70s ?) I knew a guy who went to school in Florida back in the Great Depression.

A group of ten, or more, students would walk past the everglades on the way to and from school.

Two or three of the kids would carry rifles/shotguns incase of alligators.

When they got to the school there was a riffle rack, in the open, where they placed the firearms.

We can blame guns, cars, vaccination, or the chemicals in the plastic of our water bottles.

But the truth is that society, as a whole, has dumbed down. We are our own worst enemy.

No longer are "we" responsible for our own actions, or the actions of our children.

A different culture and beliefs Paul, our ways here in Blighty are different. But I do question the lack of common sense being applied by some people in the name of freedom of rights. I think some sort of age limit and specialist training might be the way forward in these circumstances for America, I'd never deny their right to play with guns. It is their government that have to make these decisions and answer these questions, it isn't for us to judge how someone else lives.
Personally I'd not give my daughter an Uzi for fear of what she might do to her brother's toys :-D

There are crazy fools out there that would like to see us bikers banned Paul. Everywhere you go, there is someone with an opinion. Depends where in the world you're standing and what you're talking about, to whom as to how much of a pillock you are. This is my view point these days :-D

Youngsters who ARE interested in shooting should have the opportunity to do so.
BUT they should start up with a "soft" airgun, and not weapons they can't hold when pulling the trigger

During my tenure as a Rifle/Pistol coach in the Corps, we got a WM (Woman Marine...see also BAM  ) at the Pistol range that had never fired a weapon in her life. Odd for an MP but she was there for us to teach her to shoot. Well, this was back before they switched over to the worthless Browning 9mm they finally settled on. Almost as bad as the original M-16...ANYWAY...
We gave her the normal 1911A1 .45. Withe ONE round in it...she was a pretty small woman, maybe 5'5" or so, and 100lbs...She took carefull aim, and when she pulled the trigger, the pistol flew up and over her head. Just as we thought it would...REALLY glad we only gave her one round  ...Who knows what would have happened if a a .45 as old as the ones we had had landed wrong on cement with a full magazine...
And at the end of her week with us, she finally qualified as a Pistol Expert. I was pretty proud, both of her and my coaching! :D
The Marines also decided, during this period of time, that ALL WMs need to qualify with the rifle now, whereas before they didn't get to fire like the Male Marines had. Maybe, MAYBE a day of fam-fire, 5 rounds at a target 10 meters away...We wound up running every WM on base through their rifle quals. only took us 3 weeks, with 2 sets per week, so you can see, that's a lot of women out shooting...Got a lot of "dates" out of it too
So, not all people are "bad" at weapons when properly trained in safety and their use...And weapons are just another tool, like a hammer or 1" combination wrench. They don't jump up and kill people all by them selves, like a lot of anti-gun folks would have us believe...No more so than a hammer or 1" combination wrench does.
Just mey thoughts on the subject...

Good days and safe flights to one and all!

Pat☺
Have fun, fly high, far, and free!
