Flight Simulator 10 Years from Now ??

Postby Jetranger » Sun Jul 14, 2013 10:12 pm

I was just sittin here wondering, if 10 Years from Now (2023), if we'll still be able to use FSX or FS2004, with all the new operating systems that'll be introduced, and IF any of these Flight Simulator Add On's would even work then in 10 years from now ??

Things are gonna change !

Things have already Changed drastically since 10 years ago even,,,

Its going to be interesting that's for sure to see how it all plays out and what'll happen, as well with all the Add On's and Hardware we have invested in, some or most of us.

The Year 2023 is only 10 years away, seems like a long way off - but - it seems like Year 2002 was just a few months ago !

So, whats your Opinion and or Rants upon this subject ??

With the amount of commitment and dedication that I've seen in the FS community, I have the feeling that MSFS will be in the same state it is today: kicked out by Microsoft, but self-sufficient, alive, and kicking. Thank you to all of the simmers and developers that have given your hours to make it that way, and thank you to all of those that will give even more.

Well said Irwin. How i agree on those words ;)

Dont know if Prepar3d can go in and make some big differences to the most used sims today?
Something will surely happen, if talking 10 years from now O0

An interesting point there, and one I've thought about. Sometimes. Not so much for FS tho, but other software items I depend on, mainly Microsoft Excel (the old 2002 version), which I used on Win XP and now on Win 07. Everything I do, accounting, correspondence, my checkbooks, finances, etc, you name it, is Excel dependent, and I'm become practically an expert on it. I don't know of any other software that can match it for what I use it for.

My plan is to just keep my system intact, hopefully it will stay in working order, and get it fixed if/when necessary. Assuming it can be fixed if/when the time comes.

So then, assuming I am with the same system and it is in working order, FS09 will work just fine on it.

The introduction of new items in the hardware and software world is an ongoing thing and changes rapidly. For me personally, another kind of system would be side by side with my present one. I guess. It's a difficult scenario to predict. What changes will occur over the next 10 years? And yeah, look at just the past 10 years.

All very well for 15-year-olds, but for many of us oldies here, me included, we will be hoping that in 10+ years time there will be an electrical supply, and access to the internet, up in the clear blue yonder.... ;) ... ;) ...!

Either that, or be teleported back to 1980, to start all over again with my Sinclair Spectrum 48k and Commodore C64 Computer....

...now wouldn't that be nice!.... ...!

Some of the most fun years of my life have been spent with all my young Mates, Machine Code and BASIC programming 8-Bit computers in our bedrooms for the whole of the 1980's!

Zilog Z80 Machine Code!.... ...!

An exciting time in the field of Computers!

That slowed down with the introduction of the 16 Bit computers, and stopped altogether with the 32 Bit computers...to many large programming addresses to cope with in Machine Code!

I think that it is our responsbility as pilots or as Simmers to go with the time, to develope our skills in every new sistem that comes trying to improve our knowledge and handling.
A fiew jears ago, i remember that we started with the Venom and Vampire, after that we had to deal with the Hawker Hunter and than with Dassault Mirage lll and later with the Tigers...............now we have F-18 and looking back......... ..........it was an tremendeus expierience for everybody to make school on those different planes.............Its the same with computers..................we have to hold on the modern hardware and software tecnique and develope our selfes................we just can´t stop........Never. <<q <<v :D :D

And Fozzer Hagar comes from 1980 commodore computers first Flight simulators

Unless someone comes up with a new Simulator (I don't think Prepar3d will survive either) this world of MSFS will vanish in less than 2 years from now :violin:

Well I see it happening, eventually, some operating system is gonna come out , and it won't be compatible with some or any or all of the Software we have installed now in our systems.

Maybe some parts of FSX will work, maybe NONE of it will work by then.

That being the case, it'd be doubtful that any Captain Sim, PMDG, Carenado, Just Flight, Orbx, FTV, or PIS stuff would work either then.

As well as goes for all the Saitek Flight Yokes, Rudder Peddles, and other what nots out there,, that we all have.

Well, when it happens it Happens, but I Will NOT be racing out to buy or upgrade anymore software and or Hardware when it does happen.

I've already got over close to 1000.00 invested in just what little I do have as far as hardware, and close to about 500.00 in addons Aircraft and Scenery combined over the last 3 to 4 years.

Not to mention my Computer aside from all that too !

When its done, I'm Done , time to move on.

As much as I hate to state this as well, I'm also starting to see the Demise and Diminish of the DESK TOP computer as we all know it, as everything seems to be moving to more little mobile devices / hand held Techno- Gizmo's Gadgets that ya can stick in your pocket or briefcase,.

Don't know how Track IR 5 would couple up to a hand held mobile device, that'd be interesting ????

The Future is comin, theres no Doubt about that and with it comes Many Changes, both good and badd !

It'll be interesting to see "IF" any or at all any of this Flight Simulator stuff will work 7 to 10 years from now in the "Year 2023" !

I'd compare it to about like trying to put an 8-Track Audio Tape in a CD Player !

or - trying to cram a VHS Tape into a DVD Player ??

In essence, your always going to have to Spend good amounts of money to stay up with Game and keep up with the Jones, if Ya wanna be in the Game, and just about the time you get it all together - out comes another newer better system, that renders yours Obsolete , yet once again and you'll have to Upgrade yet again till the cycle repeats itself.

Personally for me, this is the last go around with Flight Simulator, I used to have 2002 pro and at that time a really amped up rig,, than I got away from it for 5 years totally and kinda got back into Flight Simulator again back in 2010.

Everything with 2002 I had I sold on EBay years ago.

It'll be Intersting that's for sure !

Now, How do I go about getting this 8-Track Tape into that CD Player ?????

There are some basic laws in this world that you can be sure will always happen - like if you jump out of a plane you will head downwards <<t

Another is 'supply and demand'

If there is a demand for something - someone will supply it.

.... and the demand for simulated flying an aircraft, as realistically as possible, on a personal machine (PC, device, ...) is only growing .....

Not only will new things come along, the visuals will improve dramatically with the aspect of 3d screens, etc

.... and on top of all that -- the existing FS programs we have now have a LONG way to go and have a massive potential.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. – Leonardo da Vinci

As for FSX, I do think they should remove the activation key. They have said they are no longer supporting it and obviously are not interested in any further profits from FSX, it's peanuts in their mindset. So they sell the rights and keep the activation key access? It's MS at its finest. The CEO and company are restructuring as we speak to more emulate Apple and Google. I bought an Apple Ipad touch last month and threw it on the shelf after 4 days.Hasn't been Itouched since, pathetic piece of crap that tries to get my money at every turn.
However, like Pete mentioned, I think Flight sims will survive for many years to come. FS9 has a good chance because it doesn't need that cursed activation key. And.. that's my 2 cents worth.
