Ian Thatcher Obit

Copied from the FS- FREEflow's website:

------

Ian Thatcher, (Thatch), died on Saturday 28/08/2010.

Ian was the founder of FS-Shipyards, and a former supporter of both The ODG Project and FREEflow.

Ian Thatcher was an extremely prolific developer of flight-sim content,
across nearly all aspects of the platform.

To such an extent that most simmers who download,
possibly have at least one of his products installed,
yet are unaware, as he'd published them under a series of assumed identities.
e.g.
As Gerrish Gray - Various tree enhancement packages
As Andy Weir - Various terrain-meshes and landclass packages.

Over the years Ian has supplied hosting to many developers and groups,
providing an incubator environment for their projects,
and often doing so out of his own pocket.

I am, and always will be, extremely appreciative
of all the assistance Ian so generously provided -
- To me personally, specifically in configuring, hosting and supporting fs-odg.com
- In configuring, hosting and supporting all the fs-groups domains
- And for all his contributions and advice.

Our condolences to his wife Tracey, and his family.
Ian will be greatly missed.

RIP Ian.
I was familiar with some of his work as Gerrish Gray.

Very sad news, as a regular user of Gerrish Gray's various Tree Sets for the MS Flight Sims over the years.

They are currently installed on my copies of FS 2002 and FS 2004 as a constant reminder of him and his work.

Very sad news indeed.

Paul.

A tragic loss, I've got a fair bit of his stuff running on FS9, I've been using his trees since about the third day I had FS2k2 running on my PC :'(

Love his work, especially the mesh he created for Australia.

Very sad to hear. He was in touch with me a few times over the years - one of the good guys - genuinely here to give and contribute to our hobby.

.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]....!

Every time I taxi past his lovely, golden Autumn trees, in my FS 2002/FS 2004, I am constantly reminded of Gerrish... ;)...!
