End of BIOS

It would appear that BIOS has/is reaching the end of the road, not bad for a system that was designed for a run of around 250,000 machines

End of the road. Though a six second boot up, a bit optimistic if you are running windows

6 second boot up is quite achievable on Windows 7 as it seems to cache a lot of the important things and is very fast to load.

To be honest, I didn't know that it wasn't updated.

When I switch on my Win XP SP3 Computer I find that I can get a 'Bus to my local Airport, board a Plane to South Africa, disembark, hire a truck to take me and a party of Tourists to the Kruger National park to photograph Elephants mating, make my way back to Airport by Taxi, board a Plane back to England, re-join the waiting 'Bus at the local Airport to take me back home, just in time to hear the introductory chimes of Windows XP starting up, and watch excitedly at the scrolling Progress bar in the centre of the Screen nearing the end of its travel.

Tomorrow morning, I will be visiting India by Bicycle, to marvel at the Taj Mahal, and dip my toes in the Pond and listen to the water tinkling from the fountains, then borrow a Microlight to take me back home, whilst my Computer slowly warms itself up...

What I don't understand is that most people get annoyed when it takes a pc to start up for 1 or 2 minutes but are very happy to stand in line for 10 minutes to buy stamps at the post office...

BTW; Old Pentium 4, 2 Gb RAM, with updated parts running on XP Pro SP3. Start up time ---> less than 50 seconds...

It's probably because you can see a queue vanishing at a post office. With computers most people have no idea what is going on inside - For all they know it is full of number crunching pixies. They expect a computer to start instantly because 'like a lightbulb, it runs on electricity, and electricity can flipped off or on instantly with a switch'.

I think the reason why my computer take three weeks, (or more), to fully boot up and run, is because it is deciding exactly where to place all the zillions of Short-cuts and Icons which litter the whole of my desktop screen!.... ...!
