2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Similar works for boiling lead, though being hotter can make that one safer to pull off.

I would do it.
The leidenfrost effect will protect your hand.
The same principal as when you put water on a hot skillet to test how hot it is.
