If you are British or live in the UK

Might I suggest signing this as it is a total rip-off that the government are proposing.... guess they're trying to find new ways to make up the loss of earnings they've recently undergone!

Do people really need this to tell them how much gas and electricity they are using? There are meters already around houses telling you how much you are using.

I think it is definately just a scheme to (attempt to) make some profit. We haven't touched the heating in our flat yet, which is probably better than what some people are doing. I reckon people have had it on every time they felt 'a little nippy'. If that's the case, I just stick on another jacket.

I would sign the petition if these are any thing like our smart meters in On. Ca. Unless you are nocturnal, your utility bill is going to go way up. These things are great if you only use power during off peak hours. (Generally at night) I am resisting for as long as I can, but the day will come when they force me into it. I have heard many complaints from people who have them.

:o :o :o All I got to say is WOW!
Here in the states we have been hoodwinked! >:( >:(
Just last year, the gas company changed the metering device on my gas meter. I was talking to the tech who was installing the new device, and what he told me was that there changing the devices so that the meters can be read remotly, just a few people driving thru the neighborhoods, with a lap top reading every meter on the block with just a click of a mouse, which will take a mila second, compared to the old way of walking meter readers who physicaly read each meter on the block, thus unemploying more people (no more meter readers). What this fella also said about why there changing the system, is it will be more efficient because some times meters can't be read due to weather, or like in my case the dogs won't let the meterreader in the yard to read the meter. So I didn't think anything about it.

Untill now >:( >:( >:(

For anyone that doesn't know, this is what a Smart Meter is all about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_meter

Apparently they were introduced in some countries some time ago. It would be interesting to hear what anyone already having one fitted thinks of them.
