who wouldn't pay $50,000 for a creature that will tear up your sofa and piss all over your rug! You could do stupid stuff with $50,000, like donate to a  medical company that's trying to cure cancer, or to an african relief program. why would you do that when you can buy something that's gonna get ran over by some old person/pizza delivery guy?

A clone is not a reincarnation, it's simply an identical twin. It wouldn't be the same dog (or person). If you clone yourself, when you die, you will not live on in your clone. Likewise, even though Fido II looks like Fido I, Fido I is gone. He's rotting in the pet cemetery. Let go, people!! Fido II may have a completely different personality, and no, he won't recognize you.

Of all the excellent uses for cloning, it seems all most people can think of using it for is some futile exercise in sentimentality... or worse yet, immortality.  ::)

Besides, why pay 50 large for a dog when there are thousands of perfectly good dogs languishing in shelters?  :(

Exactly. We could bring back Hitler and Elvis in the same way. They would look like them, but both could be vegetarian ballet dancers who could not hold a tune and clammed up at the though of public speaking. Cloning, all media and Hollywood driven hysteria.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

A pair of human clones would presumably have the same DNA but would they have the same fingerprints?...betcha NOT!...commoner :-?

I'm less certain of that aspect but as has been said of the character, it's the clone's choice as to which finger they wish to extend.

Did a quick search, and found this:

"So, do identical twins have identical fingerprints? The basic answer is NO. Identical -- or monozygotic -- twins form when a single fertilized egg splits in two after conception. Because they form from a single zygote, the two individuals will have the same genetic makeup. Their DNA is virtually indistinguishable.

However, fingerprints are not an entirely genetic characteristic. Scientists love to use this topic as an example of the old "nature vs. nurture" debate. Fingerprinting, along with other physical characteristics, is an example of a phenotype -- meaning that it is determined by the interaction of an indivdual's genes and the developmental environment in the uterus.

The ultimate shape of fingerprints are believed to be influenced by environmental factors during pregnancy, like nutrition, blood pressure, position in the womb and the growth rate of the fingers at the end of the first trimester. Thus, you will find similar partterns of whorls and ridges in the fingerprints of identical twins. But there will also be differences -- just as there are differences between the fingers on any individual's hands."
