Police car kills girl.

Police had bricks thrown at them after a 16-year-old girl was hit and killed by a marked police car in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police made several arrests after trouble flared following the death of Hayley Adamson in the city's Denton Road, late on Monday night.

At one point a 23-year-old man had to be subdued with a Taser stun gun.

Ch Supt Paul Weir said emotions were "running high" in the area and police had met members of the community twice on Tuesday to appeal for calm.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) spokesman said the driver of the marked police car was responding to the activation of his vehicle's automatic number plate recognition system, when Ms Adamson was struck as she crossed the road.

To be honest, I probably would've chucked bricks at the police too. What's the betting that the cop that did it will get off free or lightly?  >:(

So you would have thrown bricks at the police too, and then happily dialed 999 and expect them to help when your house is broken into, car stoled, girlfriend glassed outside a pub. Nothing like jumping in with both feet when you don't know what happened other than a news report, and we all know how good the BBC is. As for getting off, you assume that the car driver is at fault, pedestrians of course never just walk out without looking do they.

There will be a full investigation as in all collisions involving a police car and should the driver be at any fault then he is treated as any other driver.

I would like to believe that is true. However, experience proves otherwise. :-/

Nobody knows exactly what happened, yet, so the driver is innocent until proven guilty as far as I'm concerned. To suggest that you'd brick the police, based on no evidence that the driver was in the wrong is absolutely ridiculous.

OK, the bricking thing was hasty and wrong, and I apologise for that.

I still think that the policeman is likely to get-off without charge though (if it was his fault, of course)... It seems that in many cases like this the driver (cop or not) seems to get off with a relatively light charge.

Well it all depends on the enquiry. I have seen it happen where the car and person on push-bike didnt see each other due to a car build up. The bike pulled out onto the road and didnt see the other car... the roads were a bit cold and perhaps icy (It was in November or December I seem to remember... in like 2004) and yeh, the car hit the person. I could by no means say it was the fault of the driver... the bike should have looked and the driver was just going down the road not expecting to get a bike pulling out from the other side of the road.

Sometimes people just arent to blame for the unfortunate. Apply the same to the police in this case- they were trying to do their job and as a result they needed to drive a bit faster. Time to react is much shorter and they are no doubt stressed to get their job done and keep up with the law. The person probably didnt see it coming and ended up worse off.

Until there is proof, I'm not blaming the police for trying to do their part for us.
